JOB SUMMARY

The Director of Operations is responsible for multiple functional departments as assigned. Engages in project management; including, planning, development, and monitoring of departments that support some clinical and non-clinical activities. Leads efforts to monitor, assess and recommend changes to policies and procedures for the effectiveness of operational practices. Provides leadership and direction for these departments.

PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

PEOPLE - 10 %

1. Has primary responsibility for multiple functional areas of operations in terms of appropriate staffing levels, schedules, performance evaluations, and supply maintenance. (EF)
2. Directs, delegates and oversees work efforts as appropriate to insure the highest quality and best possible delivery of service: (EF)
3. Provides the leadership necessary to achieve a satisfied and competent employee work environment through establishing a climate for growth and challenge, doing timely performance appraisals and developing/mentoring staff. (EF)
4. Focuses on team development which includes tools, methodologies, recruiting, people development and proposals as appropriate.
5. Collaborates with physicians, nursing, administrative leadership and system partners to ensure achievement of organizational goals.

SERVICE - 20 %

1. Manages personnel (HR) issues and actions, policy and procedure issues, and faculty requests regarding support staff.(EF)

QUALITY/SAFETY - 30 %

1. Conducts analyses on all department related areas such as utilization, patient satisfaction, revenue-enhancement opportunities, and cost-reduction opportunities. (EF)
2. Manages department human resources in accordance with policies and procedures for achieving desired outcomes to include selection, counseling, development, coaching of employees; develops and manages the department budget and is accountable for financial performance. (EF)
3. Identifies and develops opportunities for improvement in accordance with Houston Methodist leadership. (EF)

FINANCE - 15%

1. Develops department's operations budget and ensures that it operates in a cost-effective manner within budget. (EF)
2. Assists the director of finance in establishing appropriate budget; plans and organizes areas of responsibility to accomplish operational and strategic objectives and does so within budget.EF)

GROWTH/INNOVATION - 25 %

1. Manages and completes projects as assigned by the VP and Chief Operating Officer that builds on Houston Methodist's mission and business plan, and develops strategic planning & business planning processes and activities related to the long term tactics and strategies. (EF)
2. Independently seeks opportunities to identify and streamline inefficiencies in assigned areas through action plans and follow-up with leaders as appropriate. Also, assesses trends for assigned departments and recommend initiatives that further support the growth and development of those areas. (EF)
3. Will develop plans with appropriate hospital leadership and will be responsible for the implementing strategies in line with the hospital's overall strategic plan.(EF)

Qualifications:

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
Position requires a master's degree in business or healthcare administration.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
5 years of progressively responsible staff experience in applicable field, of at least 2 of which must have been in a Supervisor/Manager/Director role.
