As a Director within Operational Risk Management (ORM) you will be responsible for investigating and analyzing first line business operations to support effective challenge of their decisions and risk taking, escalating risk trends and issues where required. Additionally, you will have responsibility for Operational Risk Management governance and our local team delivery capabilities. These skills allow the Risk Manager to gain insights and act as a change agent to influence business partners. Responsibilities include oversight of a team responsible for the following:
- Responding to executive requests for research, insights and/or investigations regarding areas of unknown or emerging risks, including conducting analytics and delivering executive level presentations
- Reviewing organizational performance outcomes to identify potential areas of risk exposure that require further review. At times, vast amounts of data and information must be reviewed and analyzed while working closely with cross functional business partners and senior leadership.
- Assisting in the development of risks, issues and/or mitigation plans to ensure the business implements needed changes and addresses areas of exposure
- Supporting the Operational Risk Management Policy and supporting standards regarding structure, content, and adherence monitoring
- Supporting local management routines to ensure they are well-managed and organized, including:
- Maintaining the budget in support of organizational accountable executive
- Monitoring staffing levels and informing headcount needs, reporting on status of hiring activities, ensuring alignment to budget; preparing annual staffing assessment for organization
- Overseeing monthly business review process both within our organization and in support of our larger business unit and divisional reporting processes
A successful candidate will:
- Exude a strong business acumen
- Be able to produce executive level decks with insights and recommendations
- Oversee data-driven, risk-based analysis, starting with problem identification or hypothesis development
- Have strong communication and collaboration skills, fostering positive working relationships with business partners
- Establish project parameters, delivering on multiple priorities to help drive business value and support team objectives
- Have experience in policy management, including driving appropriate structure and oversight routines
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree or military experience
- At least 3 years of Financial Services Risk Management Experience,
- At least 2 years of Project or Process Management experience
- At least 1 year producing executive level reporting and analysis
- At least 1 year experience in policy management
Preferred Qualifications:
- At least 7 years of Project Management experience leading cross functional projects or programs in Risk
- At least 7 years of Financial Services risk management experience
- Business Process Management certification (internal Capital One certification), Six Sigma Lean, OR Green Belt certification, OR Agile Coach certification, OR PMP Certification or Masters Certificate of Project Management (CPM)

The minimum and maximum full-time annual salaries for this role are listed below, by location. Please note that this salary information is solely for candidates hired to perform work within one of these locations, and refers to the amount Capital One is willing to pay at the time of this posting. Salaries for part-time roles will be prorated based upon the agreed upon number of hours to be regularly worked.
Location is New York City: $202,400 - $231,000 for Director, Risk Management
Candidates hired to work in other locations will be subject to the pay range associated with that location, and the actual annualized salary amount offered to any candidate at the time of hire will be reflected solely in the candidate's offer letter.
This role is also eligible to earn performance based incentive compensation, which may include cash bonus(es) and/or long term incentives (LTI). Incentives could be discretionary or non discretionary depending on the plan.
