Job Summary
Main-mission communication satellites, wideband links, command and telemetry, and terrestrial networks, along with their enabling technologies, are the domain of the Communication Technologies and Engineering Division. The division comprises all aspects, from architectures to implementation; our engineers work directly with corporate customers to ensure robust and resilient communications.
Network Systems Department (NSD) supports Space and Missile Systems Center (SMC), National Reconnaissance Office (NRO), other US Government, and Civil/Commercial customers in the areas of space and ground network architecture and design, network protocol and performance analysis, modeling and simulation, and network systems engineering.
What You'll Be Doing
- Develop and communicate a strategic vision for the NSD organization consistent with the strategic plans of higher-level organizations.
- Establish the organization's objectives and goals, and communicate them to colleagues, subordinates, management, and customers.
- Be a trusted advisor to your customers. Partner with them. Communicate frequently. Coordinate and report your staff's work progress, issues, and results.
- Assign and coordinate work activities within the organization; monitor workload, work progress and schedules; ensure high quality and efficient completion of organization's work products within cost, schedule, and technical guidelines.
- Engage with existing and potential customers in identifying areas to support. Develop statements of work and statements of expectations.
- Conduct staff performance reviews and recommend performance improvement, career development, salary and promotion actions; establish staffing needs and recommend reassignments, training, transfers, and other staff deployments; assist other supervisors in evaluation and assignment of staff.
- Enhance Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DE&I) within NSD and across all levels, through recruitment and development of staff.
What You Need to be Successful
Minimum Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, computer science, physics, or a related field from an accredited university.
- Extensive experience in satellite communication systems.
- Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues as well as corporate, customer, and contractor management and staff.
- Demonstrated effective mentorship, career development, and team leadership for your organization.
- Experience in new business generation and excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Active Top Secret / Sensitive Compartmented Information (TS/SCI) clearance. (US Citizenship is required to obtain a security clearance.
- Ability to travel as needed, typically once per month under normal operating circumstances.
How You Can Stand Out
It would be impressive if you have one or more of these
- Advanced degree in electrical engineering, computer science, physics, or another related field from an accredited university.
- 12+ years of progressively responsible engineering experience in satellite communication systems.
- Line management experience at The Aerospace Corporation.
- Successful project management experience.
- Experience in NSD areas of expertise including space and ground network architecture and design, network protocol and performance analysis, modeling and simulation, and network systems engineering.
- Demonstrated ability to manage remote staff.
- Experience with Air Force and NRO ground and space programs
