Position Summary:

The Director of IT & Digital for the Biosciences Division (BID) Business Units will serve as a trusted advisor and business partner to 2 or 3 Biosciences Division Business Unit Vice Present and General Managers. This leader will develop and drive an IT strategy crafted to advance Business Unit objectives. They will work with Business Partners and IT Shared Services to deliver on the overall strategy and technical roadmap. The Director of IT is responsible for developing and optimizing strategic and operational excellence capabilities (organization, process, and tools/systems) to support and grow the business and is accountable for providing IT process, application and project management leadership for new and existing technology solutions.

The Director of IT for Business Units will work closely with the global IT teams for shared services to ensure overall IT delivery for ongoing support, improvements, new releases and new applications. The position will provide leadership and work direction to both Thermo Fisher employees and contractor IT resources and will directly lead a matrixed organization of IT colleagues.

Key Responsibilities:

Business Partnership & Relationship Management

  • Provide consultative strategic and ongoing leadership for planning, development, delivery and coordination of information services and initiatives ensuring they are aligned to the Business Unit strategic imperatives
  • Build strong, collaborative relationships, acting as the trusted advisor / key point of contact between Business and IT.
  • Works multi-functionally with global and local IT resources to identify and implement solutions that match the business strategy with the technology strategy.


Service and Project Orchestration

  • Ensure that interpersonal and business-related priorities are clearly and consistently communicated. Coordinate decision-making and solutioning as needed.
  • Understand at a high level the business processes, and technologies in use and work with business to collect business requirements, shape project requests, and facilitate execution.
  • Work multi-functionally to ensure project interdependencies are accounted for and resources able to fulfill demand.
  • Acts as change champion and agent promoting IT innovation and continuous improvement.


People Development

  • Identifies and leads all aspects of talent strategies, workforce planning, succession planning and career development for the department, keeping in mind talent and opportunities within Thermo Fisher's IT and Digital functions.
  • Develop and transform the Business and IT workforce to become more digitally- enabled, agile and improving digital and rapidly growing immersive capabilities
  • Actively evaluate and develop people and interpersonal capabilities to set and implement a human resource strategy which accelerates business growth and drives value


Minimum Requirements/Qualifications:

  • Degree in Science, Information Technology, Computer Sciences or related field; MBA preferred
  • 8 to 10 years related experience leading IT teams, to include senior-level leadership experience
  • Ability to develop and implement an IT strategic plan and be an authority on the senior business staff
  • Commanding knowledge of information technology industry and the direction it is headed
  • Validated business leadership and management ability
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work in a highly matrixed environment
  • Ability to translate technical terminology into terms understandable to management, customers and employees
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with other senior leadership members
  • Effective team building, interpersonal and staff development skills
