As the Director of Inventory and Transportation, you will lead a team of associates responsible for inventory forecasting, network distribution and all inbound and outbound transportation. You will provide leadership to your team members, focusing on their career development and providing coaching and mentoring. This is a critical role within the Operations organization and will be key to the future growth and success of the company.

Responsibilities: 

Inventory

  • Lead a team responsible for inventory forecasting, supporting them in the planning and timing of new production, as well as driving continuous improvement of the process itself
  • Work closely with the Supply Chain team to ensure production is on track, troubleshooting and preparing for any potential delays so as not to impact inventory availability.
  • Work with cross-functional teams to understand the impact of new initiatives and programs that would drive inventory consumption
  • Work closely with the Wholesale team to include the wholesale forecast in the overall plan and optimize inbound new inventory timing to ensure it works for all channels
  • Develop a continuous improvement mindset looking for opportunities to optimize key inventory parameters (e.g. forecasts, lead times, order cycles…)
  • Report on all inventory-related KPIs and contribute to Operational Health Dashboards that are circulated amongst senior leadership. 
  • Accountability for end-of-life inventory management working cross-functionally with merchandising and finance teams

Transportation 

  • Own the relationship with our truckload and LTL partners, ensuring performance is meeting our expectations, and work to resolve any persistent  performance issues
  • Evaluate alternate freight carrier options with the goal to improve shipping times, rates and availability
  • Develop a reliable and agile network of carrier and logistics providers capable of supporting the growing needs of our business
  • Monitor adverse events that could delay freight and small parcel shipments and communicate to teams as necessary
  • Work closely with ops leadership to develop short, mid and long-range strategies to support business growth, new initiatives and geographic expansion
  • Identify ways to deliver savings on our annual transportation spend 
  • Set the strategy and direction for our transportation program, including optimizing shipping lanes, import/export processes and international expansion
  • Monitor small parcel carrier performance. Speak regularly with account managers to identify and resolve any hot spots or issues tied to service level misses
  • Lead the development of a robust and iterative carrier management program and performance scorecard

Experience & Skills: 

  • 8+ years experience in Operations roles required
  • 5+ years experience in both transportation and inventory management
  • 3+ years experience as a people manager
  • Previous startup experience preferred
  • Data-driven and highly analytical. Experience in using data and metrics to optimize supply chains and transportation networks.
  • Highly skilled at problem solving and inventory management techniques
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to multitask and navigate through various systems and tools
  • Comfort with Microsoft Office and Gmail, as well as learning new technologies
  • Proactive in identifying opportunities for improvement and driving solutions
