Prologis is seeking an ambitious and passionate Director of Energy Trading to scale our energy offerings, with a strong focus on building a large renewables portfolio and decarbonization solutions. Strong experience with wholesale energy markets and knowledge of both regulated and deregulated markets is required. This position can be remote or remote/hybrid at one of our 30+ offices across the US. We own over 4,725 buildings across the globe and in many markets have hundreds of buildings which provide a huge opportunity for bundling energy. The right candidate has procured energy for commercial businesses in the US and/or Europe, understands the drivers in energy markets around the world, has experience working with ISOs and local utilities and has been involved in many energy trading operations ideally including renewables. Experience with offsite solar, wind, VPPAs, demand response programs, community solar, in front of the meter storage, carbon offsets, REC trading and electric vehicle infrastructure is highly valued. Anything we can do to help solve customer needs or monetize our unparalleled holdings is in play. Prologis is currently ranked #3 for onsite solar among US corporations and is actively engaged in solar, storage and EV projects in over 11 countries. You will report to the Global Head of Utilities and Energy Storage and will closely with Global Head of Sustainability Solutions and our team of global energy professionals who are driving value for Prologis.
This position offers an unparalleled ability to build the largest portfolio of commercial energy assets globally.
What's needed in order to do that:

  • Develop and execute wholesale market bidding strategies, energy portfolio trading, scheduling, and hedge strategies to manage market exposure associated with energy, shape, basis, and ancillary positions
  • Initiate structures and structured products, to enable risk management and optimization at a project or portfolio-level including identification and negotiation of transactions to sell surplus available power generation to third parties in forward markets
  • Maintain a fundamental understanding and ongoing updating of supply-demand and price forecasts for energy, ancillary services, and voluntary carbon markets (grouped as offsets reflecting removal, reduction and avoidance of GHGs).
  • Perform the necessary financial modelling to inform power procurement terms for contracts under negotiation and regularly assess cost and price optimization opportunities for existing contracts
  • Support projects development, evaluation, and origination teams with market forecasts assumptions in building a revenue growth pipeline for global energy businesses.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of/ experience with REC/GO minting/trading and LCFS programs.
  • Lead dispatch modeling, and optimization strategies for battery energy storage assets. This includes both stand-alone and paired solar+storage assets for shaped products.
  • Manage contractual relationships and coordinate with legal, as needed, to assist with contract negotiations and to resolve programmatic needs/requirements
  • Follow energy regulatory frameworks and assess the impact of potential changes on existing energy portfolio, contracts and new leads.
  • Managing short- and long-term positions in energy markets in accordance with established risk management procedures and policies
  • Interface and develop strong working relationships with various regional internal and external partners to ensure the Energy team brings value to our real estate business


Tell us if you're ready.

  • Bachelor's degree in a quantitative discipline like engineering, applied science, economics, or statistics.
  • 10+ years of experience in energy markets, energy trading, power contract negotiations, energy regulations, renewable development, or energy generation technologies
  • Strong understanding of electricity market design, federal and state regulatory rules and issues, tariff structures, renewable energy, and renewable incentives
  • Strong understanding of Independent System Operator (ISO) setup, operations, and participation in deregulated wholesale and retail markets. Experience in Mexico also a plus.
  • Proven ability to evaluate new energy markets, utility tariffs, policies, power contracts, or evaluating new energy sourcing opportunities and technologies
  • Knowledge of PPAs, VPPAs, demand response, distributed solar, energy storage, EV and general renewable energy
  • Understanding of the interplay between system design, cost, project economics, financed pricing and ability to run and use financial models
  • Familiarity with renewable credit programs, renewable project development, power forecasting and scheduling, portfolio management theory, advanced energy storage, or alternative energy resources
  • Experience building relationships and working with industry stakeholders, such as utilities, regional power planning agencies, renewable project developers, project investors, and renewable OEMs
  • Demonstrated ability to innovate and get creative to develop executable projects
  • A history of collaboration, problem solving and communication that drives overall team success
  • Able to travel up to 20% of the time


Hiring Salary Range for Colorado Residents: $165,000-$200,000 Salary and whole compensation package (bonus target & LTI) to be determined by the candidate's education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data.
