Job Description
New hires based in the US & Puerto Rico will be required to demonstrate that they have been fully vaccinated for COVID-19 or qualify for a medical or religious exemption or accommodation to this vaccination requirement, subject to applicable law.
The Director, Business Development - Enabling Technologies will be a key contributor to our company's efforts in worldwide search & evaluation, due diligence and execution of business development opportunities in enabling technology areas complementing and/or expanding our company's current core capabilities. This individual will support Pharmaceutical Sciences and other development focused areas with the expectation that their responsibility will expand to other functional areas as they become proficient in the job role.
Primary Activities:

  • Identify, evaluate, and execute drug delivery and formulation business development opportunities with a focus on cutting-edge science across different functional areas to enhance and/or expand our company's pipeline.
  • Contribute to the formulation of licensing strategy with functional area leadership.
  • Proactively identify and solve complex problems that impact the direction of the business.
  • Co-chair licensing committee meetings and communicate business development opportunities to internal subject matter experts.
  • Contribute to the business development strategy within Pharmaceutical Sciences in conjunction with functional area and clinical development leadership.
  • Responsible for leading deep scientific and clinical due diligence, the quality of formal due diligence output, evaluations and the integration of internal subject matter expert input and senior management review and approval.
  • Work closely with search and evaluation colleagues in our company's business development External Innovation Hubs to ensure comprehensive worldwide coverage of the relevant opportunity space.
  • Collaborate with functional areas, including preclinical, clinical, and commercial teams, as well as commercial business development colleagues to ensure alignment between activities and business development needs relating to the functional area needs.
  • Analyze the full range of data and lead cross-functional due diligences on inbound and outbound licensing and business development opportunities (from discovery through filing).
  • Provide thorough and timely assessments and updates to appropriate management levels to ensure efficient communication and seamless cross functional collaboration.
  • Work closely with transaction leads, legal, commercial, and financial analysis teams to ensure relevant deals of highest priority are being advanced and executed timely.
  • Manage a portfolio of complex business development projects serving as the primary scientific contact for potential licensing, acquisition, collaborations, co-development agreements, and strategic alliances in support of the relevant opportunity space.
  • Serve as a spokesperson for our company by communicating the licensing strategy both internally and externally, and present on behalf of our company, at industry networking events, scientific conferences, and other venues.
  • Individual contributor role.


Education:

  • MD or PhD in relevant scientific discipline or PharmD with 3 plus years postdoctoral experience


Required:

  • At least 5 plus years relevant experience in the biopharma industry with good understanding of the drug discovery and development process and broad knowledge of the biotech and healthcare sector.
    At least 3 plus years of experience working in a pharmaceutical sciences role.
  • Demonstrated success in identifying, evaluating, and executing significant business development deals and partnerships that have resulted in substantial impact.
  • Thorough understanding of industry trends and competitive landscape with strong business acumen and ability to translate scientific and technical information to frame attractive business opportunities.
  • Strong interpersonal, analytical, critical-thinking, verbal and written communication skills.
  • Highly developed organizational skills, operational skills, and ability to understand the content of and memorialize interactions potential partners.
  • Strong leadership skills and proven ability to influence others to reach common goals as well as act independently.
  • Must possess the executive presence to facilitate the decision-making process among our company's Senior Executives.
  • Self-motivated, attention to detail, and proven ability to work well on teams
