About the Role

The Director of Drayage Operations is a key team member of a high energy and ever-evolving department that supports domestic drayage and intermodal shipments for our clients. They will be responsible for end-to-end-services for our clients, including carrier procurement, pricing, booking, and tracking containers through a shipment lifecycle. This position encompasses someone with a strong background in logistics, preferably drayage and intermodal and port and rail operations, and a drive for excellence. This role requires hands-on leadership and a person who is capable and willing to jump in for support and assistance to his/her colleagues with confident and strategic solutions.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Lead the daily on-site operations to achieve agreed upon business goals including key customer initiatives
- Set up systems and processes to deliver exceptional solutions for our customers
- Contribute to the design and development of a technology platform for drayage operations
- Ensure compliance with US DOT, FRA and FMC laws and regulations. Develop and manage relationships with key vendors
- Understand P&L drivers and implement plans to achieve financial results
- Participate in customer meetings and negotiations and internal financial reviews
- Negotiate rates, terms, and conditions with BCOs, steamships and other suppliers
- Drive positive business results by building an engaged team and workforce
- Develop and communicate KPIs and metrics to measure performance and assess opportunities
- Other duties as assigned
Requirements
- Fully knowledgeable of all operational aspects of our TMS and how the workflow is setup to be as efficient as possible; brings suggestions how to automate and improve processes
- Able to input and execute loads for dispatch/pick-up according to clients’ needs and requirements; is highly flexible and can mold to different customer demands
- Proactive communicator via phone & ability to communicate at a high level via email and Slack.
- Possess a problem-solving mentality; offer up creative solutions for issue resolution
- Establish and create carrier relationships and partnerships at national port and rail heads. Build key relationships with both truckers and customers to ensure 5F Dray is seen as best-in-class service provider
- Excellent sense of container tracking to ensure we avoid all detention, demurrage, per diem, storage, etc.; Comes up with unique and effective solutions to eliminate these costs
- Strong understanding of how Import Customs process works related to freight/cargo releases, pickup numbers, clearance procedures, Rail/CY operations, etc. and can act as a lead facilitator to keep containers moving
- Ensure all documentation regarding drayage shipments are correct, clear and communicated to the appropriate parties; able to proactively identify when missing details will causes problems before they occur
- Strong understanding of rate reconciliation for drayage shipments; ability to understand accessorials and importance of time sensitive resolution
- Financially savvy to ensure carriers are invoicing based on quoted services
Educational/Experience:
- 5+ years in Drayage or Intermodal operations required
- Four-year degree strongly preferred
- Self-starter, highly motivated, and growth minded
Compensation: $100-150k
