Creightons move to the BIG EAST Conference has opened- up new opportunities for the Athletic Development Office to engage alumni and friends in support of Creighton Athletics and the University. The Director of Athletic Development provides philanthropic support for the Creighton University Athletic Department with the responsibilities of managing the day to day tasks of overseeing the athletics major gifts program including the development, strategy and execution of the program. This position will carry his/her own portfolio of 150-200 Athletics donors with a focus on identifying prospects and soliciting high-end annual gifts supporting the Jaybacker program and major gifts towards priorities including annual and endowed scholarships, operational support and capital projects to yield a significant amount of revenue for the university The Director of Development will work closely with the Director of Athletics and AVP / Associate Athletic Director of Development to increase opportunities for engagement and support locally and nationally for the Athletic Department.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage a portfolio of 150-200 major gift donors and prospects, as defined by working with the Creighton University Office of Development
  • Individually responsible to annually complete nearly 200 donor visits each fiscal year with a goal to yield approximately $1 million in total fundraising production each year.
  • Serve as the primary liaison between the athletic department and University Relations Frontline Development staff.
  • Develop a thorough understanding of Jaybacker's annual giving/ ticket priority / premium seating program for Creighton Athletics and solicit season ticket priority and high-end annual Jaybacker gifts.
  • Provide planning and execution support to the Associate Director of Athletic Development for prospect cultivation, hospitality, donor stewardship and recognition programs, and other special events as assigned
  • Develop specific working knowledge of relevant Creighton University Office of Development and Creighton Athletics computer systems


Qualifications (KSA's, Cert's/licensure)

  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • Minimum 5 year's demonstrated experience in successful major gift fundraising required. Experience soliciting and closing six-figure or more gifts. Ability to travel nationally for athletic events and prospect visits, including week nights and over weekends and attendance at games and tournaments on campus required.
  • Demonstrated skills in developing and leading a comprehensive athletic department major gifts program.
  • Experience or demonstrated ability to manage and lead athletic development gift officers to achieve fundraising goals.
  • Demonstrated understanding and experience of University Athletics Departments including the motivation and development of productive relationships with student athletes, coaches and athletic department personnel preferred.
  • Familiarity with fundraising and athletic databases like Advance, Reeher, Advantage, Paciolan and Archtics preferred.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of NCAA and BIG EAST Conference guidelines, policies, rules and regulations preferred.
