Director of Culinary

As a member of Gopuff’s new Fresh Food & Local team, the Director of Culinary is a crucial role defining and launching our fresh foods strategy. The Director of Culinary is the leader of Gopuff’s food program managing everything from menu creation and development, to partnership strategy, designing our equipment setup, ensuring the field is well trained in executing all recipes, and everything in between.
You’ll be building one of the world’s most innovative food programs while ensuring it scales across the hundreds of markets that we operate in. You’ll be leading the tip of the spear when it comes to building the fresh food vertical at Gopuff!
Responsibilities
- Build the best culinary innovation team ever! You’ll oversee fresh food R&D across Gopuff’s entire company, developing a food go-to-market strategy that scales everywhere we operate
- Manage a team that will develop and execute a fresh foods strategy across all lines of business for Gopuff including white label programs, production kitchens, third party operations and retail
- Collaborate with the greater Gopuff team to develop, refine, and quickly execute a playbook for a Fresh Food platform that can be executed at scale
- Implement new techniques, culinary processes & technologies to support growth of Gopuff’s food program with effectiveness and efficiencies of scale
- Stay current with emerging trends; work with collaborative resources to capture, leverage and create culinary & service innovation at Gopuff
- Engage with a broad culinary network to increase the presence of Gopuff’s food expertise
- Work closely with the marketing and business development teams to communicate externally and evaluate inbound partnership leads
- Build a training and quality assurance team to ensure everything we make meetings our high standards and delivers exceptionally well
- Take on financial responsibilities in areas such as food-cost management, labor efficiency, and building top-line sales through product offerings
Requirements
- 10+ years of professional experience across the following fields
- Scratch kitchen, chef driven restaurant operations with an emphasis on menu development
- Culinary operations, food supply chain, and fulfillment logistics for a food manufacturer or enterprise-scale dining operation
- Fine dining back-of-the-house (line cook) experience
- Culinary or food product development and menu innovation
- Comfortable addressing challenges with ambiguous or incomplete information
- Strong organizational skills and extreme attention to detail
- Honest and direct without any ego
- Demonstrated ability to manage priorities and cross-functional projects in a dynamic environment
- Strong analytical skills, comfortability with taking in data to help us drive strategy and develop strong business cases
- Initiative and bias for action, on-time delivery, and operational excellence
- Willingness to travel up to 25%
