Turn is a 140+ person, venture-backed, experienced team of entrepreneurs that are focused on driving unprecedented value in the contingent workforce industry. Our worker screening and sourcing platforms are used by companies in 30+ industry verticals ranging from rideshare to delivery to healthcare. We support employers that need to develop last mile labor quickly - that could be 50 workers in Miami or 1k+ workers across multiple cities every month.
Members of the Turn leadership team are granted significant autonomy in their domain expertise while working closely together to drive growth under a unified strategy. Today, we are seeking an ambitious and entrepreneurial candidate to help manage our compliance department through a rapid growth stage. This role will interface with all major stakeholders on the executive team (e.g. sales, product development, operations, and finance) to oversee and guide compliance strategies. Core to this role is developing a keen understanding of the critical levers of the business driving the supply and demand of labor.
About you:
As the Director of Compliance, you will ensure internal controls and compliance efforts are maintained by developing, recommending, and maintaining policies, procedures and programs to reflect changes in law and regulations to minimize risk. Duties include advising the business on a variety of compliance matters, including but not limited to reviewing and advising the business on contracts, assessing partners and workers from a legal and compliance perspective, and responding to potential legal and policy violations. You are a self-starter who is skilled at building rapport and collaborating with a variety of stakeholders, prioritizing effectively, and understanding and assessing risks across different business areas and legal disciplines. You should be passionate about the services we provide and the people that we serve.
The ideal candidate will have previous compliance experience in a venture-backed or public labor marketplace such as Uber, Instacart, Amazon, DoorDash, Grubhub, etc. or experience within the labor recruitment industry (e.g. Wonolo, Shiftgig, CareerBuilder, Monster, Manpower, etc.).
What You'll Do:

  • Implement job processes and workflow enhancements to our existing compliance infrastructure
  • Formulating metrics and successfully executing upon business unit Key Performance Indicators (KPI's)
  • Managing a team of compliance professionals, in a collaborative and supportive remote environment
  • Advising the business on a variety of compliance matters and interfacing with external regulatory counsel and corporate counsel as needed
  • Conducting research on a variety of legal and compliance issues pertaining to background screening and identity services in the US
  • Developing and reviewing company policies and practices regularly and maintaining industry certifications such as PBSA
  • Staying up to date with relevant legal developments as they occur and analyzing their applicability to the company's activities and objectives
  • Representing Turn in industry conferences and being a thought leader through the release of timely whitepapers, blog posts, etc.


What You'll Need:

  • 5-7+ years of experience in compliance
  • Previous experience in venture-backed or public labor marketplaces or labor recruitment industry required
  • Advanced Certifications in compliance related area such as FCRA
  • Demonstrated organizational abilities and exceptional analytical skills with a focus on monitoring KPI's
  • Proven ability to independently investigate and act on compliance-related matters, including experience designing and coordinating internal investigations that result in corrective actions
  • Must have the ability to promote collaboration and proactively communicate with different stakeholders to drive alignment with strategic initiatives and hold teams accountable
  • Possess excellent written and verbal communication skills.
