Your Role and Responsibilities

The Digital Technical Specialist role in the Storage Digital Sales Initiative (SDSI) organization plays a critical guiding role with the Storage offering being sold. The position not only requires that the individual be proficient in the offering but also be able to articulate and understand the client's specific wants and help the sellers translate those requirements to suitable IBM products. Digital Technical Specialists are the primary technical resource for customers, prospects as well as IBM Business Partners.

Other Requirements

  • Actively driving and managing the technology evaluation stage of the sales process, working in conjunction with the sales team as the key technical advisor and solution advocate.
  • Ability to conducting presentations to promote new or upgraded products/solutions to customers at the beginning of the sales cycle.
  • Work with prospective customers or prospects to provide technical information and identify pain points
  • Work in partnership with sales teams to help customers determine the best technology solutions to meet their business needs in the areas of data storage, retention and protection
  • Answer questions about compatibility, functionality, and implementation
  • Help sales teams drive opportunities to closure via the above listed activities
  • Be able to assist marketing with creation of sales plays and client messaging by providing technical knowledge, insight and relaying technical info in "layman's terms".
  • Be able to provide shoulder-to-shoulder knowledge transfer and training to sales teams on product, portfolio value prop, competitive information and market trends as they relate to data storage solutions
  • Is expected to reach customers/prospects at all working levels, from technicians to senior management Strong presentation skills are a must and DTS should be able to adjust presentation materials as needed to provide the type and depth of information required for each recipient
  • Keep up with new technologies entering the market and continually refresh their training to stay current with those evolving technologies

Required Technical and Professional Expertise

  1. Must have deep understanding and knowledge of following product suite/ competitive storage:
    • Storage technology experience equivalent to the below or competitive products:
      • Storage Flashsystems
      • SAN Switches (b-san and c-san)
      • Tape
      • Backup solutions
  2. Working knowledge of virtualization.
  3. Proven knowledge of data replication, data center network, disaster recovery configurations.



Preferred Technical and Professional Experience

  • Hybrid cloud and Public cloud implementations.
  • Storage/ SAN certifications.
  • Must have working experience of being able to determine storage interoperability and compatibility.
  • Lead strategy conversations with business partners and understand the overall direction of the sales lead along with the Progression seller.
