Job Purpose:
This position provides project leadership and architectural expertise of various Digital Manufacturing/IoT 4.0 and Securing the Factory technologies at the Lafayette facility and other E&T facilities, as well as providing advanced thought leadership to Lafayette on Manufacturing IT topic.
Description:
Incumbents may perform all or portions of the following duties:
1. Provides project leadership, expert advice, and counsel to IT personnel, management, and project teams at Lafayette and other E&T facilities on the deployment of Digital Manufacturing/IoT 4.0 projects
2. Provides project leadership, expert advice, and counsel to facility IT personnel regarding the design and deployment of network Factory Security Zones and mitigation of IT Security issues discovered through network monitoring efforts
3. Provides team guidance for the Lafayette Factory Systems Support team on project plans, team assignments, and issue escalation
4. Creates Logical Technical Architecture diagrams and Secure Configuration Baseline documentation for proposed Digital Manufacturing/IoT 4.0/Factory Security Zone solutions
5. Requests firewall rules for Factory Security Zone implementations and troubleshoots firewall issues
6. Introduces new technologies and develops departmental standard practices in the areas of Digital Manufacturing and Securing the Factory technologies
7. Maintains close liaison with customers to assure business needs and perception of value are met
8. Develops "Business Case Analysis" to justify customer investments in Digital Manufacturing projects
The position manages the completion of its own work assignments and coordinates work with others. Based on past experiences and knowledge, the incumbent normally works independently with minimal management input and review of end results.
Typical customers include business unit and/or service center groups. The position is challenged to quickly and correctly identify problems that may not be obvious. The incumbent solves problems by determining the best course of action, within departmental guidelines, from many existing solutions. The incumbent sets priorities and establishes a work plan in order to complete broadly defined assignments and achieve desired results. The position participates in brainstorming sessions focused on developing new approaches to meeting quality goals in the measure(s) stated.
Basic Requirements:

  • Knowledge of networking concepts such as switch management, network segmentation, and firewall rules, as well as experience with network interfacing of a variety of factory equipment such as machining centers, PLCs, and torque tools to factory systems and databases.
  • Strong analytical skills are required.
  • Understanding of the Caterpillar organization and its business processes is required.
  • College or university degree or equivalent experience.
  • Seven to ten years of progressively responsible job-related experiences are typically required.


Top Candidate Will Also Have:
• Knowledge of Digital Manufacturing/IoT 4.0 technologies such as Devicewise, Kepware, Sciemetrics, and Microsoft Azure IoT solutions.
• Jobholder initiates communication with others outside immediate work group to work on new ideas or to counsel others, etc.
• Ability to listen to others is important to the job.
