Full Time (40 hours)

Day Shift, 8:00 am - 4:30 pm

Position Summary:

The Core Service Specialist will ensure that the preregistration process is performed to completion. This process ensures that insurance verification, obtaining referral/authorization, obtaining precertification (when applicable), financial work-up, and documentation of notes are obtained for inpatient and outpatient services. The CSS will assist in maintaining financial records according to departmental protocol. The CSS will provide patients with educational material and physician information when required.

Education:

High school diploma or GED required.

Work Experience:

1-2 years related medical office, hospital, medical call center or similar customer service environment.

Knowledge/Skills:

Comprehensive medical and insurance terminology; comprehensive knowledge of hospital
and physician referral protocols; comprehensive knowledge of medical insurance plans, billing and regulations, especially managed care plans; PC word processing; familiar with regulatory agencies (HSCRC, HCFA, etc.) and their impact on health services financing.

Requires excellent verbal communication, telephone manner, interviewing and interpersonal skills to interact with patients, families, members of the health care team and external agencies. Requires analytical skills to resolve problems to provide patients and referring physicians with information and assistance with pre-registration issues. Requires analytical ability to perform calculations for financial work up and calculation of deductibles. Typing 30 wpm; data entry 4000-6000 keystrokes with ≤12% error rate; following directions with 80% success rate.
