Why Divvy?

At Divvy Homes, we're building an on-ramp to homeownership – one that's more flexible, more affordable, and an all-around better fit for today’s American family – and it’s working.

Job Description

We’re looking for our first dedicated Compliance Officer to join our growing company. In this role, you’ll be working with Divvy’s legal, brokerage and operations teams as well as other stakeholders throughout the organization in developing, implementing, and managing compliance programs. Your primary goal is to empower the business to move quickly and confidently while protecting both the customer and the company. Over time, you will build a dynamic and high-performing compliance team, and a strong culture of compliance across the company. You will enhance our knowledge of real estate brokerage compliance as well as consumer regulations. You’ll report directly to Divvy’s General Counsel.

Why is this an important role for Divvy?

Divvy operates in or adjacent to highly regulated areas of the law - housing, credit, consumer finance, etc. In addition to federal laws and regulations, individual states have their own regulatory matrix to navigate. Rent-to-own has a dubious history and Divvy wants to forge a different path.

How will success be measured?

- Successfully strike a balance between risk and growth

- Develop and implement effective risk management and compliance protocols

- Maintain and enhance existing compliance systems and processes

- Partner well with applicable business partners

Responsibilities

  • Implement and manage a compliance management system, including policies and procedures; risk assessments; monitoring, testing, and corrective action processes; and vendor risk management, complaints management, and compliance training programs
  • Conduct regular reviews of business operations for compliance with statutes, regulations, and company policies & procedures
  • Provide compliance advice; collaborate with other teams to implement platform and systems changes to decrease compliance and operational risk
  • Facilitate the development of a compliance risk appetite, key compliance risk, and performance indicators, and reporting to ensure senior management and the board are kept regularly apprised of compliance and operational risk
  • Assess controls for adequacy and effectiveness, develop testing procedures and make recommendations for the reduction of risk
  • Assist with and coordinate the production of information for regulatory examinations
  • Prepare reports on findings of audits and other internal reviews.
  • Exercise judgment to determine appropriate action, including, but not limited to, identifying issues that require the input of other legal team members and escalate matters appropriately.
  • Provide support on compliance issues associated with federal, state, and local consumer protection laws and regulations.

Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree and 4 to 6 years of relevant experience
  • A background or experience in fintech, proptech, financial services, or real estate
  • You are a thorough and diligent project manager with the ability to juggle many tasks at once
  • You are comfortable with a rapidly changing and ambiguous work environment
  • Meticulously organized with the ability to successfully manage disparate projects in parallel
  • Self-starter - take ownership of projects, identify opportunities, roll up your sleeves, and get your hands dirty
  • Intellectual curiosity - don’t be afraid to ask questions and challenge the status quo
  • Agility - willingness and ability to learn on the fly, push outside of your comfort zone
  • Skilled in both written and verbal communications with all levels of an organization
  • Empathy - for our customers, colleagues, and investors

Divvy Perks

  • Competitive salary
  • Full benefits (medical, dental, vision)
  • Unlimited PTO
