ABOUT THRIVE MARKET

Thrive Market was founded in 2014 with a mission to make healthy living easy and affordable for everyone. As an online, membership-based market, we deliver the highest quality healthy and sustainable products at member-only prices, while matching every paid membership with a free one for someone in need. Every day, we leverage innovative technology and member-first thinking to help our over 1,000,000+ members find better products, support better brands, and build a better world in the process. We recently reached a significant milestone by becoming a Certified B Corporation, making us the largest grocer to earn this coveted qualification.

THE ROLE

As Chief of Staff, your mandate is to provide strategic leverage to the CEO and extend the influence of the Office of the CEO across the business. You are deep in the weeds so he doesn’t have to be. You move through the business with all aspects of his vision in mind, understanding where to support ongoing projects, where to flag risks, and how to spot new opportunities. Success means the CEO is able to spend as much time possible on the projects only he can do. Analytical rigor, high horsepower, passion for member experience, and a willingness to take on anything thrown your way are all a must.

The opportunity of a lifetime – mentorship from a leading ecommerce entrepreneur and CEO, exposure to inner workings of the retail / food / technology industries, ownership of business results, and a community of ambitious mission-driven colleagues. You will work directly with Thrive Market CEO & Co-founder, Nick Green, across all aspects of Thrive Market’s business. There is no limit to your responsibilities or to the outlets for your curiosity. The role is a combination of Chief of Staff, Special Ops, Business Development, entrepreneur, and analyst.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Level 1 Responsibilities - Leverage & Mind-Meld:
  • - Management of Office of CEO; Executive Assistant; Strategic Initiatives

  • Utility Infielder - Beyond all else, you are the single person the CEO can always depend on. No task is “beyond the scope” of your role if it serves the strategic best interest of the company
  • Project Manager - Hold teams across the business accountable for deliverables and deadlines related to each strategic initiative
  • Knowledge Conduit – Ensure information moves fluidly across the organization; help CEO communicate strategic goals to various levels of stakeholders for maximum buy-in and true understanding; keep CEO, Executive Team, and broader organization abreast of any needed updates, aid CEO in planning agenda or pre-work for Exec meetings; transfer knowledge from meetings to appropriate team members
  • Gatekeeper - Guard the CEOs time as sacred and give Executive Assistant strategic guidance to free up as many large blocks of time as possible for the CEO
  • Insights Driver - Help the CEO see crucial things he might be missing. This might be about the business at large, the customer experience, or the employee experience -- anything preventing the product or organization from operating at its highest level
  • Systems Builder - Build systems to institutionalize knowledge gained

  • Level 2 Responsibilities - Strategic Value-Driver:
  • Strategic Insights - "The Starter": Identify areas of opportunity, both with the business and organization. What’s broken that others are missing? What should we start doing? What should we stop doing?
  • Special Ops - "The Fixer": You are able to parachute in on behalf of the CEO and fix areas of the business quickly, effectively, and as an extension of the CEO
  • Strategic Projects - "The Builder": Build net new business lines or Strategic Initiatives from the ground up

  • Driven by data - you know how to use both quantitative and qualitative data to build products
  • Brand Obsessed - you’re passionate about consumer brands, branding, and marketing. Passionate about building Thrive Market to be an iconic brand

An Insider's view of Thrive Market

How would you describe the company’s work-life balance?

Thrive Market is a company that values family first. Leadership has supported me as I navigated the challenges of being a first time mom (during a pandemic!) with kindness and empathy, while offering me a flexible schedule and while still giving me opportunities for growth.

Erin

Senior Director of Growth Marketing

What's the biggest problem your team is solving?

The biggest problem our team is trying to solve is how to become the number one brand users turn to for easy and affordable online groceries. Our team puts user experience at the forefront to ensure that the user has an enjoyable and cohesive experience across the board, from their browser all the way to their mobile app.

Krisha

Lead Software Engineer

How does the company support your career growth?

I first started in Member Services. Now, I am responsible for providing a testing infrastructure that provides our users the highest quality of shopping experience. I take what I learned from my direct interaction with members, and now have the ability to add that to code that reflects that interaction. 6 years later, I'm still Thriving!

Marcus

QA Engineer

How do your team's ideas influence the company's direction?

The Merchandising team is always looking for better ways to serve our members. We build out category strategies that include sourcing new products to meet member's diet & lifestyle needs, looking for more sustainable packaging formats or creating innovative Thrive Market Brand items.

Christine

Senior Director of Merchandising

How do you collaborate with other teams in the company?

We really make an effort to foster cohesion between team members and make the effort to understand the long-term goals and strategies with our partnered departments. We achieve this by emphasizing trust, respect, honesty and open-mindedness in our day-to-day communications and interactions. It helps that we're all driven by our mission!
