This position assumes full responsibility for the sales and profitability for the Vitamins & Supplements category across in-store and e-commerce channels. This includes assortment, vendor relationships, purchasing, pricing, presentation, promotion, margins, funding, logistics, channel strategy and inventory of each sub-category. He/she monitors and reports business trends, competitive trends and maintains awareness of retail overall trends for the specific categories. 


 Responsibilities:

  • Omni-Channel Category Strategy - Define and implement omni-channel business strategy through assortment, promotion, pricing, & planning. Partner with marketing to understand business objectives/customer needs and identify category/product opportunities. Develop & execute an integrated seasonal plan. Take on ownership of assortment strategy based on channel. Identify and understand the role of Private Label within the category.

  • Vendor Management - Develop key vendor partnerships to acquire consumer information, category expertise, which includes purchase and consumption, trends; new product launches, and assistance with marketing ideas. Negotiate best costs, promotional funding, and exit strategies with vendors.

  • P&L Ownership - Conduct business and financial analysis, including forecasting, monitoring, and reporting. Provide weekly insight or what is driving business with a focus on improving future results.

  • Buying – Develop and manage a merchandising budget tied to the company financial budget (sales/margin/inventory/space). Drive assortment style and flow needs, according to channel and within context of corporate strategy; communicate changes and impacts cross-functionally. Continually seek out new and exciting items, brands, or trends to drive innovation and newness to the merchandise plans.

  • Merchandising - Partner with marketing to understand business objectives/customer needs and identify category/product opportunities. Develop and manage plan-o-gram sets and store layouts. Collaborate with e-commerce merchandising counterparts to execute best-in-class digital customer experience. 


 Qualifications and Desired Skills:

  • Minimum 5 years category management/merchandising/buying experience in related business or brand with demonstrated category management experience or equivalent hands-on operational experience encompassing merchandising, operations, products.

  • 2+ years’ experience in e-commerce/digital operations

  • Highly self-motivated with a sense of urgency and anticipatory qualities.

  • Excellent product sensibility and conceptual ability.

  • Comprehensive understanding of retail math.

  • Strong analytical, communication, and presentation skills.

  • Ability to take initiative, ownership, and accountability for business.

  • Strong sense of teamwork and ability to multi-task.

  • Intermediate Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in business or equivalent experience required, MBA preferred

  • Supervisory experience preferred

  • Travel required when necessary (trade events, market visits, etc.)
