Job Summary

The Director of Capital Improvement strengthen operations ability to develop and execute major capital projects that deliver strategic value and financial success. This leader will manage the capital plan for the Infrastructure Products Group (IPG), including capital year plan development, monthly reviews, and plant equipment improvements. This position will be responsible for the implementation and oversight of the capital plan for IPG, and will provide leadership support to Project Managers, Operations Leaders, and Subject Matter Experts involved in various aspects of project design and implementation. Also responsible for regular reporting to management on capital plan progress as well as strategic direction and tactical oversight of the plant equipment footprint across IPG. This position exercises a considerable amount of independent judgment and discretion in directing operations to ensure that significant projects are delivered in a quality, timely, efficient, and cost-effective manner.

Responsibilities

  • Follow and track project approvals. Provide notifications, answer inquiries, and collect information requested by Project Approvers to expedite the process.
  • Track progress against capital plan, providing regular updates and feedback to management.
  • Review financials for required projects, ensuring that proper, consistent completion of spreadsheet calculations and project basis/assumptions from plants. Review regularly with CFO and leadership
  • Review all Group business case summaries as project gatekeeper, ensuring fields and information are completed correctly. Work with project requestor/submitter to provide recommended/required information.
  • Schedule and lead project reviews on monthly (minimum) basis. Generate and distribute project listing for reviews.
  • Oversee project forecasting across Division to ensure completion and compliance with expectations.
  • Maintain rapport and communication with Operations and Project Leadership members for each project
  • Lead and coach direct reports on best practices related to project management techniques and value-creating activities (execution of capital projects).
  • Interface coordination between all engineering groups, third parties and plant operations.
  • Oversee the capital execution process to ensure the right activities are being done at the proper stages and to create the greatest value.
  • Coordinates the development and implementation of manufacturing processes for new plant equipment including flexibility for future growth.
  • Work with Engineering, Operations, Safety, Quality on new equipment LOTO procedures and practices.
  • Develop and execute standard processes to evaluate, procure, assess, and install new plant equipment



Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering with 2+ years of project management experience OR in lieu of a degree, 10+ years of project management experience
  • Project or operations work experience in building products manufacturing
  • Experience with executing large capital projects over $10 million (single or multiple projects)
  • Working knowledge and experience as a Project Manager or Project Leader
  • Ability to lead cross-functional initiatives, drive high performance, meeting deadlines, and execute on deliverables
  • Ability to lead multiple complex projects simultaneously and balance a range of key internal and external stakeholders
  • Previous experience leading equipment installation and/or construction projects in an industrial environment
  • Use and understanding of Microsoft Office programs - Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and Project
  • Working knowledge and experience with project management software programs
  • Skilled in facility layout and design, regulatory requirements, process improvement and team problem solving methods
  • Ability to travel 75%
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
