Bone Density Tech
POSITION SUMMARY
Performs a full range of diagnostic radiographic examinations. These functions are performed in accordance with all applicable laws and regulations and MedStar Georgetown University Hospital's philosophy, policies, procedures, and standards.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
KSAs Proficiency
Must have basic knowledge of radiographic theory and techniques, good knowledge of specialized and complex radiographic procedures. Ability to work under stressful and emergent situations.

CBDT (CERTIFIED BONE DENSITOMETRY TECHNOLOGIST) within 1 Year Required
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Contributes to the achievement of established department goals and objectives and adheres to department policies, procedures, quality standards, and safety standards. Complies with governmental and accreditation regulations.
- Adheres to the policies and procedures that apply to the performance of obtaining radiographic studies, including performing correct, exam, including laterality, on correct patient at the time requested. Assures technically precise completion and analysis of scan and reports results to the Physician.
- Performs full range of diagnostic radiographic examinations in the department.
- Performs daily quality check of the bone density machine.
- Ensures that radiation safety precautions are taken.
- Ensures efficient room turnover.
- Provides basic information to patients and/or families concerning procedures to be performed and can answer questions if asked.
- Completes assessment of bone health history for each patient. Able to provide counseling on bone health and bone density scans as needed.
- Ensures timely completion of all exams through tracking, scanning and other technical workflow as related to Bone Density Machine and software and Enterprise Electronic Record (EMR).
- Operates radiographic equipment. Able to troubleshoot technical and equipment issues that may arise.
- Assists with the upkeep of radiographic equipment, adheres to all related safety requirements and reports need for equipment repairs.
- Coordinates, communicates, and collaborates with Patient Financial Associates that register radiology exams to minimize delays and potential safety issues for the outpatient populations.
- Exemplifies SPIRIT values, actively participates in Patient Safety Standards and tasks.
- Participates in meetings and on committees and represents the department and business unit in community outreach efforts.
- Participates in multi-disciplinary quality and service improvement teams.
