Overview
The AVP, Government Affairs & External Relations is an internal ambassador for PennyMac's issues and interests with respect to key business partners, government agencies, regulators, policymakers, and industry groups. They are an expert in the policy environment affecting PennyMac's business operations and the mortgage industry at large. This role requires excellent analytical, interpersonal and organizational skills, the ability to communicate effectively in person and in writing, an aptitude for learning, and the discipline to manage multiple projects with tight deadlines.
Job Description

  • Track relevant external developments pertaining to housing finance system, agencies, and regulators (e.g., legislation, administrative action, industry priorities and interests)
  • Research regulatory/other issues and trends in the housing finance industry
  • Build relationships with and understand the perspectives of partners on internal teams
  • Work closely with internal stakeholders to gather and organize ideas and thoughts on key issues in the preparation of formal responses to requests for comment and position papers
  • Work with internal teams to research and draft responses to external inquiries from key business partners and Government Agencies
  • Prepare meeting materials and develop talking points for executive team in preparation for industry meetings and events
  • Assist in the preparation of monthly and quarterly executive and board materials
  • Support external relationship management efforts and initiatives
  • Performs other related duties as required and assigned
  • Demonstrates behaviors which are aligned with the organization's desired culture and values

Ideal Candidate will have the following:

  • 5-7 years mortgage industry experience preferred, or equivalent industry experience
  • Strong written and oral communications and presentation skills
  • Self-driven, with strong desire to learn about complex topics
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Ability to juggle multiple tasks with critical deadlines
  • Strong team player who can work effectively and efficiently with others to achieve common goals
  • Experience working with teams across an organization, particularly in the areas of consensus-building
  • Experience with mortgage industry think tanks, trade associations, and/or lobbyists
  • Strongly familiar with the housing policy and advocacy landscape in Washington D.C.
  • Knowledge of local, state, and federal laws and policies, specific knowledge of laws and policies governing single family housing and property a plus
