At a time when tech policy and regulatory discussions are accelerating worldwide, community-governed approaches like Reddit’s must have a voice in the conversation. As Reddit grows internationally, it's important that we work closely and collaboratively with lawmakers, regulators, academics, and civil society to help them understand the big issues that affect our business, our users, and the open Internet. We're seeking a Policy Manager for Australia (also covering New Zealand) to lead our government relations and public policy work in our new Sydney office. Reporting to the global Director of Policy, you’ll engage with Australian regulators and elected officials, explaining Reddit’s community-first governance model and educating them about the company and our users. You’ll analyze legislation, provide strategic input on advocacy campaigns, and engage industry groups, academics, and civil society on a wide range of tech policy issues, especially matters relating to online safety and privacy regulations. You’ll also represent Reddit in conversations with industry associations and look out for our interests in regulatory drafting discussions. Responsibilities:

• Engage with Australian government and regulatory officials (including the eSafety Commissioner’s office, Department of Infrastructure, Transport and Regional Development and Communications, etc) and staff to advance Reddit’s policy agenda, both generally and in response to specific legislative or regulatory matters.
• Contribute to strategic approaches for Reddit’s government relations and public policy work in Australia and New Zealand.
• Closely follow legislative and regulatory developments in Australia and New Zealand with potential to impact Reddit’s business. 
• Work collaboratively with contracted outside consultants/lobbyists as well as both internal and external legal counsel to anticipate, analyze, and educate other company stakeholders about pending legislation or regulations. 
• Participate on behalf of the company in relevant industry bodies and associations, including industry code-drafting processes in accordance with the Online Safety Act. 
• Cooperate with a wide range of global cross-functional partners across a variety of business functions including product, communications, safety, community, growth, sales, and others to provide a regional public policy perspective on decisions impacting our business and users in Australia and New Zealand. 
• Engage with civil society, academics, and NGOs to educate them about Reddit’s unique community-based model and where relevant, cooperate on initiatives of shared interest. 
• Produce written briefing materials as needed for Reddit executive team and senior management. 
• Provide guidance to local policymakers, advocacy groups, and other relevant partners on use of the Reddit platform.

Qualifications:

• 5 years minimum (more is welcome) of relevant experience working in government, law, policy, advocacy, or other related field.
• Familiarity with user-generated content platforms and the policy environments that surround them, or an aptitude to quickly get up to speed on complex technical and regulatory issues.
• Strong analytical capability, including the ability to summarize and distill complex legislation and processes for executives.
• Determination and the ability to learn on the job in a fast-paced, high-information environment.
• Exceptional interpersonal and diplomatic skills, sense of protocol, and comfort engaging with government officials.
