Associate Director - IRB
Job Summary
At Houston Methodist, the Human Research Protections (HRP) Associate Director position is responsible for leading, managing, and advising designated staff, teams, and/or areas within the Human Research Protection Program (HRPP) and is responsible for independently identifying and resolving issues regarding the Institutional Review Boards (IRB) and associated designated committees. The position works closely with Office of Research Protections (ORP) leadership, HRPP staff, IRB members, ancillary committee leadership, and others in the Houston Methodist Hospital research community to ensure operational efficiency and compliance with laws, regulations, standards, and institutional requirements that impact human research, and ensure proper budgetary needs are met, including optimizing financial resources.
Requirements:
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
In the performance of duties, the position will:
(1) Review, research, and interpret changes, trends and new developments related to human research;
(2) Provide written analysis on specified topics;
(3) Draft policies and procedures to implement and operationalize IRB and HRPP-related initiatives;
(4) Ensure regulatory review processes are standardized;
(5) Develop strategies to enable the IRB and HRPP and other implicated research departments and personnel to successfully adapt to changes;
(6) Serve as a resource to the research community regarding human research matters;
(7) Maintain HRPP staff and IRB productivity; and resolve compliance, service and operational issues.
Qualifications:
EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor's degree in a health science field required.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Minimum of 5 years of experience in a healthcare professional/administrative/laboratory management capacity required including 2 year in a leadership position. Preferred experience in clinical research management.
