ROLE PURPOSE:

Reporting to the plant manager, the operations manager is a key member of the plant leadership team and will serve as the key link between the plant operating areas, the maintenance/electrical team, and plant manager to ensure the most appropriate resources are engaged in problem resolution. The operations manager will coordinate the efforts of the plant coordinators (PC’s), maintenance team coordinators and operators to meet those objectives. In the absence of specific direction, the operations manager has the responsibility for developing a game plan to avoid or overcome issues. This position may be required to periodically work off scheduled hours, nights or weekends to complete critical tasks. After hours interaction with plant site or vendors may be required utilizing email, phone, text, etc.

LEVEL 1 – ROLE

  • Drive EHSQ excellence culture and improvements
  • Develop/design EHSQ policies, procedures, and best practices
  • Set EHSQ goals and objectives for the Van Buren plant
  • EHSQMS element owner

  • Compliance with procedures that implement the requirements of the EHSQ policies and procedures
  • Being responsible for their own actions
  • Carrying out their work in a manner which does not present a risk to themselves, others, and the environment
  • Reporting all incidents, defects, hazards, and inadequacies of procedures so that appropriate review and corrective action can be taken.
  • Suggesting improvements and being active in the general improvement of all systems and methods of work to ensure EHSQ supports activities and services are carried out in a safe, environmentally responsible, reliable, and cost-effective manner.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Supports trouble shooting and problem-solving efforts
  • Coordinates maintenance efforts
  • Provide effective leadership for all operation and maintenance team members, including operations for sound practices and work methods
  • Initiate improvement action through appropriate resources when necessary
  • Coordinates site skill block systems for production and maintenance areas
  • Supports individual, team, and plant communications that result in teamwork and accomplishment of area goals
  • Ensure proper documentation is completed for maintenance storeroom, productions reports, logbooks and HAACP
  • Reviews and follows Non-GMO policies and procedures
  • Provide planning and support for inhouse and external construction projects.
  • Work with vendors and suppliers to ensure consumable, supplies, shipping and raw materials are ordered and arrive in a timely manner.
  • Coordinate with offsite scheduling and planning for ensuring production planning is accurate, on schedule and inventory levels can support current sales forecasts.
  • Effectively interact with outside departments and staff groups to maximize communications and understanding of plant process, staffing and financial issues.
  • Provide coverage and support for when Plant Manager is out of office.

FOOD, ENVIRONMENT, HEALTH & SAFETY DUTY OF CARE:

Food Safety:

  • Carry out responsibilities/duties according to food safety, legal and quality requirements to ensure that our products are fit for human consumption

Environment:

  • Comply with all environmental standards, procedures, and work instructions always
  • Report any environmental violation or near misses to prevent any impact upon the local environment, its inhabitants and Tate & Lyle

Health & Safety:

  • Adhere to the safety policies, procedures, and site rules
  • Fully participate in the safety program, including reporting any incidents or near misses and auditing

PERFORMANCE MEASURES:

The incumbent will be measured against site EHS, Quality, Production, Reliability, and leadership goals

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

  • Intermediate level of knowledge and proficiency in Microsoft office products including Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Project.
  • Ability to use Autodesk applications including ACAD to view and make minor edits to drawings and other electronic documentation.
  • Intermediate knowledge and proficiency in SAP maintenance, including workorders, work request, PM’s and scheduling.
  • Intermediate knowledge and proficiency in SAP production, shipping and finished goods.
  • Intermediate knowledge and proficiency in OSI PI.
  • Intermediate knowledge and proficiency of OEE and plant metrics.
  • Comfortable with public speaking and presentation to small and large groups.
  • Fundamental knowledge and understanding of maintenance activities including preventive maintenance, breakdown scheduling and staffing requirements.
  • Intermediate level of proficiency in post-production run analysis.
  • Ability to plan, implement and control budgeting while managing departmental and plant costing for multiple areas.
  • Basic understanding of logistics including transportation routing of tractor trailers, railcars and other modes of shipping/receiving supplies or finished products.
  • Ability to manage/lead teams through identification and problem-solving using tools such as, Five-why, RCCA, Fishbone and others.

Tate & Lyle complies with all local/state regulations requiring salary range transparency.

When determining final compensation, we take into consideration: skillset, job scope, knowledge, prior experience, cost of living, market data, budget availability, and other factors as permitted by law.

The salary range for this position is $89,000 - $130,000 Annually
