Role Overview
We are looking for an Experience Design Principal to join our dynamic Design Discipline in New York. This role involves collaborating with the Head of Design to contribute to the growth and influence of the discipline. Responsibilities include leading significant projects, supporting business development efforts, mentoring designers, and developing tools, systems, and methods to uphold design standards at Oliver Wyman.
This position involves working on cross-industry projects, addressing challenges that balance user needs with business goals. Collaboration with the Customer First Concept Lab, a team focused on design and innovation, will be a key part of the role. You will work with technologists, designers, and industry experts to prototype digital and physical ideas, facilitate stakeholder alignment, and deliver effective solutions.
The role is suitable for a design leader comfortable navigating ambiguity, who sees complexity as an opportunity, and values design as both a creative and strategic function. Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate with the Head of Design to set strategic priorities and enhance the impact of the design discipline within the firm.
- Lead complex design projects across industries, ensuring alignment between user needs and business objectives.
- Work with the Customer First Concept Lab, a team focused on rapid design and innovation, to address challenges, prototype ideas, and deliver actionable solutions.
- Mentor and support junior designers, fostering a collaborative and inclusive culture.
- Advocate for the strategic value of design and communicate its impact effectively to diverse audiences, including senior executives.
- Ensure design strategies are feasible and align with technical, operational, and business requirements.
- Develop strategies and initiatives to identify and capitalize on new business opportunities and support organizational growth

Qualifications
- 8–12+ years of experience in design and strategy-related roles, with proficiency in service design, user experience design, or comparable disciplines across both digital and physical domains
- Experience working in consultancy environments is required
- Advanced proficiency in tools such as Figma and knowledge of scalable design systems. Strong experience in journey mapping and translating research into actionable strategies.
- Proven ability to align design initiatives with business goals, delivering measurable outcomes.
- Experience identifying growth opportunities and contributing to business development efforts through impactful design
- Exceptional skills in crafting compelling narratives for various audiences.
- A passion for innovation, inclusivity, and designing for diverse user needs.

The applicable base salary range for this role is $235-265K
The base pay offered will be determined on factors such as experience, skills, training, location, certifications, and education, and any applicable minimum wage requirements. Decisions will be determined on a case-by-case basis.
