Job Duties:

Will perform Neurodiagnostic procedures according to facility policy and procedures. During procedures for which competence has not been achieved, the technologist will train under direct technical supervision.

  • Is knowledgeable in correct Neurodiagnostic performance and recognition of clinically significant findings and follows facility policy and procedures regarding critical test results.
  • Maintains the patients’ safety through communication to other patient care support staff during testing if needed.
  • Continues to learn and apply basic and intermediate EEG waveform recognition, relevant medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, infection control, current HIPPA practices, contraindications for activation procedures, instrumentation and preparation for use.
  • Performs patient assessment as related to care such as electrode fixation product allergies, movement restrictions and cognitive function.
  • Knows and recognizes drug and physiologic status effects on activity monitored.
  • Communicates appropriately and effectively with the patient and healthcare staff to convey the purpose of the diagnostic testing and answers questions regarding the procedure.
  • Understands why and how to maintain correct electrode connections.
  • Identifies and performs basic and intermediate technical troubleshooting and artifact identification and elimination.
  • Understands and follows concepts of digital equipment and electrical safety within the Neurophysiology unit.
  • Has knowledge of alternate montages, protocols and alternate equipment settings and their effects should be applied.
  • Contacts supervisory staff as appropriate for problems within the Neurophysiology unit, stocks supply, and prepares patient rooms for Neurodiagnostic procedures.
