Job Description
Johnson & Johnson’s Global Network Architecture, Automation, and Engineering organization is seeking a Network Automation Engineer with a strong focus on network security. In this role you will design, build, and maintain automation packages that improve the security, reliability, and scalability of our network infrastructure. You will deliver solutions to support policy lifecycle, configuration drift detection, validation and safe deployment for firewalls, SaaS-based security offerings, load balancers, and core network services. This is a hands-on development role that blends deep networking and security expertise with a passion for software engineering and DevOps practices.
Key Responsibilities
Design, development, test, and maintain network automation packages with a large focus on network security appliances (firewalls, SaaS security integrations, load balancers).Support and execute tasks for network tools and applications in alignment with priorities set by service leadership.
Build and maintain automation playbooks, scripts, and low-code packages to deploy, validate, and roll back network changes safely.
Automate policy lifecycle (create/modify/delete) processes, configuration drift detection, and change verification and assurance.
Integrate with network devices and network security services via RESTful APIs and automation frameworks.
Collaborate with network, security, cloud, and SRE teams to translate security requirements into reliable, auditable automation workflows.
Troubleshoot and remediate automation failures and production incidents; implement preventative controls and monitoring.
Document automation workflows, runbooks, and operational handover materials; produce compliance evidence as required.
Troubleshoot and resolve issues, escalating as needed, while maintaining clear documentation and transparency.
Mentor and coach engineers on automation best practices, secure coding and testing, and operational runbooks.
Stay current with network security and automation trends and propose improvements.
Qualifications
Education
Bachelor's degree
Required
· 5+ years enterprise networking experience, with a minimum of 2 years focused on automation.· 3+ years hands-on experience with firewalls, load balancers, or SaaS security solutions in production environments.· Network scripting/programming skills (Python preferred); experience with automation frameworks such as Ansible, Nornir, or similar.· Solid understanding of networking fundamentals: , , VLANs, NAT, ACLs, TCP/IP.· Experience with Linux-based platforms and network service administration.· Familiarity with cloud networking (AWS, Azure, GCP) and hybrid connectivity patterns.· Experience integrating with RESTful APIs and working with telemetry (syslog, NetFlow/IPFIX, SNMP).Strong troubleshooting, documentation, and collaboration skills.
Confidence with platforms such as Cisco Firepower, Cisco Defense Orchestrator, Cisco ISE, F5 Big-IP.
Experience with SaaS security platforms (Zscaler, Cloudflare).
Experience with load balancers and application delivery controllers.
Familiarity with low-code automation platforms (Gluware, Itential, Ansible Tower).
Containerization or virtualization experience.
Certifications such as CCNP, Cisco DevNet, or equivalent.
Experience applying security best practices: RBAC, patching, OS lifecycle, vulnerability remediation.
