Overview:
Reporting to the CMO and serving as an integral member of the Marketing Leadership team, the Vice President (VP) of Communications will be responsible for the development our global communication strategy and manage the team that positions Alteryx as the world's leading data analytics company. The VP of Communications will develop a world-class communications plan, program and team, directly managing communications activities that promote, enhance, and protect our brand reputation, earn us top media coverage in key targeted press and manages the Executive Communications of our CEO, President and CRO and Chief Product Officer (both internal and external.) The VP of Communications will be responsible for the development, integration, and implementation of a broad range of global public relations, industry analysts relations, exec speaking opportunities and organic social media activities relative to the strategic direction and positioning of the organization and our mission.
Responsibilities:
Communications Strategy, Vision and Leadership

  • Develop and implement an integrated strategic communications plan to advance our brand identity & mission; broaden awareness of our product, solutions and community initiatives; and increase the visibility of the company across key external audiences, analysts/influencers and press and build new and unique storylines for the company to tell our story
  • Create marketing/public relations strategy that will allow our leadership to cultivate and enhance meaningful relationships with targeted, high-level external audiences, including the media and key influencers & ensure top coverage from key events like earnings calls, M&A activities, etc. Ensure our executives are prepared, coached and address key talking points that align with targeted media and the outcomes & coverage we want to drive
  • Drive a robust Industry Analyst Relations program that will directly impact our ability to create and define Analytics Automation category leadership. Work closely with Product Marketing and Product teams to define unique, differentiated positioning and build relationships with key Top Tier Industry Analysts.
  • Provide oversight of robust Executive Communications program supporting our CEO, President and CRO, and Chief Product Officer, including development of a communications platform and execution across key internal and external forums. This team works to ensure a tightly aligned story across the senior leadership team that leverages individuals as Subject-Matter Experts (SME).
  • Identify challenges and emerging issues faced by the organization. Work with leadership team and staff to recognize internal and external communications opportunities and solutions, and define and execute appropriate strategies to support them across key channels earned and owned (social media channels)


Communications Operations

  • Serve as a spokesperson and lead point person on media interactions that help promote and/or impact the organization
  • Exercise judgment to prioritize media opportunities, and prepare talking points, speeches, presentations and other supporting material as needed
  • Actively engage, cultivate, and manage press relationships to ensure coverage surrounding product launches, partnerships, programs, special events, public announcements, and other projects
  • Oversee the day-to-day activities of the communications function including budgeting, planning, media reporting and monitoring as well as managing PR agency performance & competitive benchmarking for share of voice ranking
  • Work hand in hand with the Investor Relations team, legal and finance teams to ensure coordinated external communications in and around regulated 'black-out' periods, etc.
  • Work collaboratively across marketing and the entire organization to define and drive compelling Alteryx stories and drive consistency of messaging.


Team Development/Management

  • Recruit and manage a communications team to support the development and execution of the communications strategy
  • Promote a culture of high performance and continuous improvement that values learning and a commitment to quality
  • Mentor and develop staff using a supportive and collaborative approach on a consistent basis
  • Establish and monitor staff performance and development goals, assign accountabilities, set objectives, establish priorities, conduct annual performance appraisals, and administer salary adjustments


Qualifications:

  • A growth mindset-oriented team player who empowers & manages their team to high performance and works across functions to achieve results
  • Bachelor's degree in journalism, communications, or related field is required, an advanced degree is preferred
  • Minimum 10 yrs. experience in a senior comms leadership roles either or both in-house or with an agency
  • Demonstrated skill and comfort in driving the PR agency to proactively build relationships with top tier reporters and editors, and in successfully positioning subject matter experts in the company with key media to achieve high-impact placements
  • Experience and excellent judgment in dealing with C-level executives and helping them find their voice in key communications channels and opportunities
  • Extensive successful writing and editing experience (externally focused) with a variety of print and online communications media
  • Demonstrated experience and leadership in managing a comprehensive strategic communications including: messaging, media relations, social media, exec comms and analysts relations
  • Experience in building, mentoring, and coaching a team of communications professionals
  • Superior management skills; ability to influence and engage direct and indirect reports and peers
  • Self-reliant, good problem solver, results oriented


Compensation:
Alteryx is committed to fair and equitable compensation practices. Final compensation for this role will be determined by various factors such as a candidate's relevant work experience, skills, certifications, and geographic location.
This role is eligible for variable compensation including competitive salary, bonus and stock grants.
