About the job
Red Hat's Business team is looking for a Telco Strategy and Business Planning Director to join us in Boston, MA. In this role, you will be responsible for developing and implementing successful strategies and for leading and managing the process to determine telco market opportunities for Red Hat, including making recommendations on technology landscape, market investments, and priorities. You will collaborate with the telco, media, and entertainment (TME) sales leadership, TME partner ecosystem leadership, Product and Technologies Business team, and the office of CTO to help with demand generation, customer success, and offers. You and your small team will guide a collaborative process across multiple products, business units, CTO, and field groups to research and analyze growth opportunities for Red Hat in various industries, applying to multiple product lines and provide a 2 to 3 year outlook for the entire TME segment at Red Hat. As a Telco Strategy and Business Planning Director, you'll develop clearly defined success metrics to track and report on. You will report to the technology strategy and execution leader in the sales organization of Red Hat.
What you will do

  • Manage a process for collecting input and research about TME market opportunities from internal and external sources; conduct market research to provide input into market analysis
  • Analyze industry trends, dynamics, competitive factors, economic factors, buying dynamics, and ecosystem requirements across the entire global TME market
  • Conduct market sizing of new TME solutions, market and potential revenue scenarios for Red Hat's offerings
  • Define marketing, partner ecosystem, sales, and product requirement for vertical market solutions for delivery
  • Present business cases, findings, and recommendations to Red Hat senior executives and C-suite leaders in order to help inspire and guide to a decision to pursue a specific vertical area
  • Define, own, and manage Red Hat's TME vertical strategy; focus on expanding the footprint of Red Hat's technologies in the industry, including definition of industry solutions and corresponding value propositions, market segmentation, and requirements for our offerings to meet the market needs
  • Use your expertise to serve as a trusted strategy and business adviser to both the product and sales leadership teams
  • Provide market insight to sales leadership and collaborate on market dynamics, opportunities, and sales objectives
  • Support sales team in meetings with key customers and partners
  • Provide guidance for our offerings with a clear understanding of relevant market insights; assist with where and how the Red Hat portfolio will fit telco sales opportunities
  • Coordinate with marketing teams to define and carry out marketing programs to gain customer engagement, generate new and upsell pipeline, and accelerate sales through direct and indirect routes to market
  • Support the Sales team with the help of the product marketing team with relevant marketing initiatives, sales training, events, announcements of our offerings, sales enablement tools and resources, etc.
  • Develop solution models considering partners and partner components as part of an overall solution working with the Ecosystem partner team
  • Develop investment models for executing those solutions; build the delivery and headcount models for addressing each opportunity
  • Represent Red Hat within the telco space externally at conferences, speaking opportunities, etc.
  • Report program and campaign results to product and sales leadership and stakeholders
  • Solicit input, perspectives, and data from field and cross-functional groups, to augment the analyses and assessment of potential market opportunities


What you will bring

  • 15+ years of technology experience in the TME segment
  • 10+ years of product management, product marketing, or vertical marketing experience in the TME segment
  • Extensive experience analyzing market opportunities across a variety of industries
  • Deep experience with telco and information technology businesses
  • Deep market analytical skills; ability to conduct both macro and micro level economic analysis of industries and guide business modeling
  • Creative and resourceful with the ability to think systematically and create data-driven strategies
  • Excellent collaborator who is able to get things done effectively in a cross-functional role
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills with excellent ability to organize and convey information and recommendations to senior-level executives
  • Software industry experience, preferably with virtualized cloud infrastructure and hybrid management solutions and modern application development platforms and middleware
  • Record of prior responsibilities including product, technical architecture, sales, and marketing
  • Positive approach, solid work ethic, and good organization, presentation, and communication skills
  • Thorough understanding of direct and indirect sales needs, buying cycle, campaign metrics and analysis, and market intelligence resources
  • Bachelor's degree; MBA is a big plus
  • Willingness to travel up to 35%, following Red Hat's COVID-19 guidelines; domestic and international travel will be in equal proportion
