Successful Social Media requires a balance of work behind each of the two words that make up the practice. Social, by building trust with our audiences and connecting as personally as appropriate, and Media, by scaling our storytelling efforts to brand-level corporate marketing initiatives.GitLab is a unique company to work for and while the demands of social marketing don't necessarily turn off, our team has leaned into GitLab's values as a way to build the social marketing practice of the future. We work to deliver best-in-class work and deliver on our expectations but do not allow the perils of working in social media to burn us out or damage our mental health. We take our company values seriously and integrate them into our daily work as often as possible.

We also act as subject matter experts for our senior leadership team and general GitLab Team Members around personal social media practices.

What you’ll do in this role

Our Senior Social Marketing Manager will be responsible for successful social media campaigns and content from end-to-end, from ideation to reporting on performance and have their hands in social media enablement and advocacy work. • Work with in-house brand and creative teams to create engaging assets, sometimes designing quick needs yourself
  • Monitor and engage with users across social channels who mention us, sharing their content with GitLab Team Members as appropriate - community management is a shared responsibility across the social marketing team
  • Contribute to developing and reporting on OKRs, campaign performance, and milestones

Brand Risk Mitigation

  • Provide insight into navigating typical social media risks - understand how our content relates to what’s happening in the world away from GitLab and DevOps
  • Contribute your perspective on what strategies we won’t use as much as what we will use

Employee Social Media Advocacy

  • Contribute to our new employee social media advocacy program

Professional Growth and Subject Matter Expertise

  • Articulate & document social marketing strategies and processes in the GitLab handbook - this is our living and breathing strategy
  • Consult with interested team members on their personal social strategy and how they can position themselves within the GitLab community

  • Staying up-to-date and educating others on current technologies, algorithm changes, and trends in social media

  • 3+ years experience in social media marketing across a breadth of social media specific activities like campaign development, brand and community management, copywriting, light social graphic design, employee social advocacy - and the ability to step into any of these roles as needed
  • Proven experience in
    • managing highly visible, high-volume social media channels
    • reporting on performance for non-social media experts, including senior leadership teams
    • Working independently as well as working as the subject matter expert in cross-functional teams (please consider providing a professional reference from a current or former colleague that works outside of social marketing)
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with proven problem analysis and problem-solving skills

Bonuses we’d consider, but are not required:

  • Previous experience working asynchronously is not required
