The Public Relations Specialist is responsible for the research, identification, and recommendation of strategic projects, partnerships and community relations activities at the corporate level, along with a focus on local market public relations, events and market research. While collaborating with the RMMs (regional marketing mangers) and the local market leadership team, this position will plan and conduct public relations and goodwill programs/events to improve the company's relations with the public, industry, and employees as well as create press releases/media advisories, speeches, media pitches, article development, and other writing assignments as needed.ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Steers the development and implementation of policies, strategic projects, partnerships and community relations in local markets.
  • Plans, schedules, and executes public relations programs, including advertising, press releases, trade shows or seminars to maintain reputation and visibility of the company; ensures the company identity and image is maintained.
  • Coordinates public relations events and activities to promote and support the mission, objectives, and business goals of the company.
  • Prepares and distributes information to the public with the creation of press releases, media advisories and pitch letters.
  • Researches, creates and maintains editorial opportunity spreadsheets, speaking opportunities spreadsheets, awards spreadsheets, local community partner research/intel for each market, press coverage tracking spreadsheets and other project management tools as needed.
  • Coordinates local events, ribbon cuttings, and local PR pitching and media days in coordination with the Regional Marketing Managers (RMMs) and market leadership.
  • Measures PR program impact using regular reporting, site traffic data, etc.
  • Conducts communication audits; tracks and measures effectiveness of media activity to identify best practices.
  • Assists more senior PR and RMM staff in relationship maintenance with government officials in different agencies.
  • Proactively identifies issues that may impact the organization's reputation; alerts senior PR staff and helps develop communications plans to mitigate situation.
  • Writes communications products including press releases, fact sheets, award nominations, and speeches, ensuring each includes timely, accurate information and key messages.
  • Repurposes client alerts, blogs, and other marketing communications tools for media pitches.
  • Prepares, and may deliver, speeches and scripts.
  • Researches local community organizations and local press outlets, becoming an expert in local market intel to assist in making recommendations and coordinating outreach plans.
  • Aids in promotion of the institutional image of the company, its services and its social function; supervising the illustrative material of the business.
  • Coordinates a press release distribution internally and externally.
  • Manages media requests in a timely and professional manner.
  • Assigns and approves artwork and participates in community and civic programs.
  • Participates in meetings and other events representing the company before government agencies as needed.
  • Performs other duties as assigned and modified at manager's discretion.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite products including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook, plus a variety of other word-processing, spreadsheet, database, e-mail and presentation software
  • Ability and willingness to travel locally, regionally and nationwide up to 20% of the time
  • Spoken and written fluency in English
  • This job requires use and exercise of independent judgment

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE CRITERIA:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Public Relations, Communications, or other related field; experience may substitute for education on a year-for-year basis above the minimum required
  • Minimum three (3) years of related experience
  • Prior PR agency experience in the healthcare industry and/or an industry that deals with varying market-focused initiatives preferred (i.e. multi-site hospitality companies, multi-site entertainment companies, touring groups/shows, healthcare agency, etc.)
  • Experience working with different markets/cities preferred
