The Opportunity and the Role:
The Capital One Corporate Communications team is looking for a creative, curious and results driven communications professional to join a growing group of PR experts.

This Principal Associate will be a key member of the Mainstreet Card PR team with responsibility for creating broad scale external communications related to Capital One's commitment to financial inclusion and, more specifically, consumers who are building and rebuilding their credit. The associate in this role will partner with the integrated Mainstreet marketing and business teams, external agencies and vendors to highlight Capital One's leading Mainstreet products and the unique customer experiences they provide.
This position operates in a fast-paced environment. The role involves product launch strategy; influencer relations; content creation; earned media strategy; reputation building and protecting; analytics and insights; digital storytelling; and building trusted relationships with both internal and external stakeholders.
Primary Responsibilities
Identify and communicate the benefits, features and key insights related to consumer finance products and offerings
- Support the development of full-funnel communications strategies, including paid, earned, shared and owned media
- Build and foster strong relationships with industry, consumer and financial media contacts, to ultimately increase quality media coverage in priority outlets (focus on national online, print, broadcast)
- Identify and establish relationships with third-party influencers that can contribute to and amplify our content
- Build powerful, dynamic, influencer content that can be adapted and shared across a variety of internal and external channels
- Draft effective communications materials, including business-facing content, media correspondence and press materials
Support development and use of data and analytics
- Leverage analytics expertise to measure impact of communications programs on business goals
- Help communicate related findings effectively to multiple and different audiences
- Support survey content development for use in media and influencer relations efforts
- Research and analysis of current PR trends - particularly in the areas of content, emerging channels, influencers, measurement, SEO and storytelling - to foster new, creative thinking
Contribute to process excellence
- Develop new and effective processes that will increase efficiency across the Mainstreet Card PR team and our broader organization
- Collaborate with the broader Corporate Communications team and internal partners (e.g. Business Analysts, Marketing, Social, Content) to plan and execute integrated campaigns that drive awareness and consideration for Capital One/Mainstreet Card products
- Effectively manage agency partners and vendors
- Develop compelling slide-based presentations that communicate strategic approaches, tactical plans and results; present them to internal partners and clients
Support Capital One enterprise communications
- Connect the dots across Mainstreet and the broader Corporate Communications team to drive efficiencies and create value for our business partners
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or military experience
- At least 3 years of public relations experience with a consumer brand, at least 3 years of public relations experience with a business brand, or a combination of the two
Preferred Qualifications
- At least 1 year of experience in analytics measuring impact of communications programs and influencer relations
- At least 1 year of experience in managing multiple projects simultaneously
- At least 1 year of experience presenting work to clients
- At least 1 year of experience supporting PR efforts across the paid/earned/shared/owned media spectrum
- At least 1 year of multicultural PR experience
