The Opportunity

 

 

As a marketing lead within the MassMutual Strategic Distributors (MMSD) Marketing Strategy team, you will be responsible for developing and driving marketing strategy supporting MassMutual's life insurance and disability insurance businesses. These products are sold through unaffiliated third-party advisors and brokers. MassMutual has a solid base of third-party distribution relationships and is making aggressive, intentional investments to expand their advisor base and be a key player in this market.

 

More specifically, you will, in partnership with Marketing centers-of-excellence (COE), product subject matter experts (SME) and MMSD distribution teams, deliver marketing programs that reach third-party target audiences and generate results in support of the channel's business goals and growth targets.

 

Using your deep understanding of third-party distribution and the intermediated sales model, you will build strong, collaborative relationships with the MMSD sales and relationship management teams and understand the products and competitors within the marketplace. You will share these insights with COE partners in the campaign development process to ensure program success and deepen organizational understanding of the business.

 

The Team

 

The MMSD Marketing Strategy team is newly formed and resides within the MassMutual Marketing & Brand organization. The goal of the team is to develop strategic marketing plans that support and deliver upon the business goals of MMSD Distribution. MMSD Distribution is comprised of two lines of business; Life Insurance & Disability Insurance and Hybrid Life Insurance-Long Term Care & Annuity. This position is the marketing lead for the LI & DI business. The MMSD marketing team includes three additional marketers.

The Impact

  • Develop the strategic marketing plan to launch and establish MMSD in the life insurance and disability insurance marketplace; this includes channel value proposition, market research, channel and firm-specific campaigns, product promotion and sales ideas

  • Lead the development and delivery of foundational Life & DI-specific materials that communicate the MMSD value proposition

  • Collaborate with MMSD distribution partners (key accounts, wholesaler leadership and field/phone wholesalers) to create point-of-sale materials that drive successful sales interactions and lead to product sales

  • Partner with MMSD distribution leadership to prioritize marketing deliverables

  • Participate in the development of program goals and key performance indicators (KPIs) to assess the success of marketing programs

  • Partner with the marketing lead for Hybrid Life-LTC and Annuity to find synergies and achieve efficiencies across both businesses

 

The Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree Required

  • 8-10 years of experience in financial services marketing and/or strategy with a solid understanding of the B2B2C intermediated sales process, ideally through unaffiliated insurance-based advisors, securities-based advisors, independent broker dealers, and RIAs

  • Experience working with Brokerage General Agents (BGAs), such as Crump, LIBRA, and Tellus and client firms, such as Merrill Lynch, Edward Jones, and First Republic is a real plus

  • Knowledge of life insurance and disability insurance products, including sales concepts, competitive landscape, customer challenges and industry/regulatory trends

  • Demonstrated experience working with and leading cross-functional teams and leveraging COE partners to deliver marketing programs that drive results

  • Collaborative leader who can effectively interact and engage partners within a matrixed team structure

  • Proven success managing multiple priorities using strong project management skills, attention to detail, leadership, and collaboration in a fast-paced environment

  • Demonstrated ability to synthesize complex data and insights in order to provide clear direction for marketing briefs and strategic planning

  • Demonstrated ability to impact and influence peers

  • Outstanding verbal/written communication and interpersonal skills

 

The Ideal Qualifications

  • Master's degree and 10+ years of experience in B2B2C financial services marketing

  • Based in Boston, MA or willing to relocate with occasional required travel to the Springfield, MA office
