Marketing Researcher
Meet Upside:
We created Upside to help communities thrive! Our retail technology uses the sophistication of online retail—profit measurement, attribution, and incrementality—to provide users with more value on their everyday purchases and brick and mortar businesses with new, profitable customers. We’ve helped millions of users earn 2 to 3 times more cash back than any other product, and tens of thousands of brick and mortar businesses earn measurable profit. Billions of dollars in commerce runs through the Upside platform every year, and that value goes directly back to our local retailers, the consumers they serve, and towards important sustainability initiatives. Our mission, values, and dedication to inclusivity guide our team of more than 200 people worldwide, and the quality of our culture is reflected in the impact we’ve had on communities nationwide.
Meet the Research Team:
The Research team uses a combination of qualitative and quantitative methods to better understand the mindset of our customers (consumers and merchants). We conduct studies supporting product, marketing, and sales. We live-and-breath a customer-centric philosophy to help Upside reach its business goals.
About the job:
As a Marketing Researcher, you will lead, design, and implement research to understand our audience, drive signups and conversions, and help retain our dual-sided business of consumers and merchants. To do this, you’ll partner closely with the Experience, Brand, Sales Enablement, and Marketing teams. You will play a role in shaping how we build research as a core proficiency at Upside, enable others to learn and apply research findings, and help build an outstanding brand.
What you’ll do:
- Assume overall responsibility for research methodologies that are leveraged and incorporated to test designs, copy, and concepts throughout the marketing lifecycle.
- Develop a deep understanding of our customers, their mental models, how they make decisions — and apply those findings to recommend campaigns and initiatives.
- Develop and test key value propositions and tactics to accelerate growth and brand preference.
- Explore competitor apps and digital tools (marketing messages, and product features).
- Interpret customer support tickets, app reviews, social media posts, and other sources of feedback coming into the business.
- Evaluate satisfaction surveys and mine data from Salesforce and Hubspot.
What you need:
- 3-5 years of research, insights, or marketing analytics experience.
- Understanding of when to use different research approaches (qualitative facilitation, and quantitative surveys, question types, and choice-based exercises).
- Skilled in the vital analytics tools (SPSS, R, Python) and aware of minimum statistics (t-tests, ANOVAs).
- Knowledge of marketing channels and experience working on marketing/brand campaigns.
- Strong empathy.
The fine print:
- Notice to recruiters and placement agencies: This is an in-house search with a dedicated resource. Please do not submit resumes to any person or email address at Upside. Upside is not liable for, and will not pay, placement fees for candidates submitted by any party or agency other than its approved recruitment partners.
