What you will do:
At Northwestern Mutual (NM), our vision is to deliver financial security to help our clients live their best lives by choice. A key pillar of our vision and success is our strong, vibrant sales force. This role sits in the Marketing department, using marketing technology platforms to create a superior field marketing experience by providing our sales force with a MarTech stack that is easy to use and helps drive growth within their practice(s) while saving time and money.
We are seeking a Marketing Manager Platforms to specialize in marketing technology program strategy and execution, drive cross-functional operational workflow improvements, track key marketing program progress and creatively develop technical solutions through effective collaboration. Reporting to the Assistant Director on Field Marketing Technology team , this person will be a key contributor in defining and delivering outstanding technology experiences, with a focus on social media, promotional merchandise, and sales enablement materials. Responsible for driving improvements to the martech stack, this may include project research, execution and measurement tracking/analytics done independently or by building relationships and using connections between various departments and vendors.
How you will do it:

  • Digital Platform Strategy: Assist in developing, leading & implementing strategies for field-facing digital marketing platforms that improve system effectiveness and address struggles of our salesforce to support the growth of their practices while simultaneously meeting the needs of consumers & internal partners
  • Program Leadership/Project Management : Serve as a key contributor to concurrent programs and projects, helping to define strategy, business requirements, project scope, success criteria, risks, budget, design/development, communication plans, and implementation process
  • Cross-Functional Team Alignment: Build and effective relationships with the Marketing Growth Team, Brand & Advertising, Creative Solutions, Field Communications, Campaigns & Content, Digital Media & Social Marketing, Compliance, Field Marketing and Product & Engineering teams to ensure alignment on project plans, roles & responsibilities, business rules, roadmaps, product/template designs, content, integrations, data flows, technical development & ongoing platform support
  • Vendor/Relationship Management: Act as a guide/consultant/liaison working with outside vendors, internal partners, contractors, and freelancers to ensure platforms function as expected in alignment with advisor workflows, offering the products, content & services needed for advisors to successfully market and grow their practices
  • Program Assessment : Collaborate with business partners and other Marketing teams to evaluate new, and optimize existing programs to improve field/consumer experience based on key business measures
  • Metrics : Develop basic systems and reports to support strategies and tactics that ensure data-driven decision making, while keeping leaders and key partners informed & aligned
  • Process Management/Improvement: Own or contribute to the development and implementation of formal processes and guidelines for managing field-facing digital platforms
  • Consumer/Field Research : Partner with Marketing Insights team & Corporate Strategy to understand consumer and advisor needs and struggles, analyze insights to determine root cause, and develop solutions to address challenges, resulting in improved business outcomes
  • Brand Management: Partner with Brand & Advertising and Creative Solutions to ensure products/content offered on digital platforms consistently represent Northwestern Mutual's brand guidelines


Bring Your Best! What this role needs:

  • Bachelor's degree with an emphasis in marketing/communications, business or related field
  • Minimum 3+ (5+ years preferred) years of proven experience in a professional marketing or communications setting: corporate, agency or financial services industry
  • Organization Skills: Demonstrated ability to manage multiple complex projects and timelines in fast-paced, team and independent environments
  • Critical Thinking: Demonstrated skills in problem-solving, listening, planning and thought leadership
  • Leadership: Ability to negotiate, influence, and build credibility and strong partnerships in matrixed organization across business functions and levels
  • Business Communication Skills: Strong written and verbal communication skills for internal collaboration and development of consumer/client communications
  • Analytical Skills: Results focus with ability to use data intelligence to influence decisions and refine strategies.
  • Creative Management: Proven ability to successfully engage and guide creative teams to plan, conceive, develop and implement marketing initiatives
  • Customer-Focus Thinking: able to generate strong excitement with new and unique project ideas and programs that keep the client as center focus
  • Adaptability: thrives in an environment of ambiguity, innovation and ongoing change
  • Curiosity/Experimentation: Natural desire to monitor the constantly evolving marketing and financial industry landscape to incorporate latest applicable trends and technologies. Try something new, fail, try again.
