Upwork’s Marketing Automation team is responsible for lifecycle marketing, marketing operations, and maintaining and evolving Upwork’s expansive stack of marketing technology. The Marketing team relies heavily on technology to execute impactful campaigns that grow the use of our work marketplace by both independent talent and clients and provide the insights needed to improve performance. We’re a technology-focused department that continues to evolve and expand our use of technology. The Manager, Marketing Technology will report directly to our head of Marketing Automation to build and maintain an innovative, efficient, and impactful martech stack for the company. You will be joining at a pivotal time as we're making big infrastructure improvements to support the next phase of the company’s growth.

Your Responsibilities:

  • Manage the Marketing technology suppliers currently contracted by Upwork, processing renewals, cancellations and working with vendors to resolve issues
  • Become an expert in and super admin of tools managed by the Marketing Automation team, including: Tealium, Braze, Sigstr, and others
  • Manage the audience segmentation used by the Marketing team, ensuring data is flowing as required and the segmentation evolves with the business by adding new data points and segments 
  • Support stakeholders within the Marketing department by leading all technology evaluations to help them select the best technology for their use case and hold recurring office hours to answer questions
  • Become an expert on emerging technologies, trends, and laws, and make recommendations for future investments or changes to our tech stack
  • Keep a pulse on current vendors, including feature releases and current usage, and make recommendations for how to better utilize existing technologies
  • Work with cross functional teams including Legal, Information Security, Finance, Accounting, Marketing, Engineering, and Data Platform Services through the entire lifecycle of technology - from research to implementation

What it takes to catch our eye:

  • A background working with a complex technology stack comprised of many different vendors
  • Experience leading large technology evaluations
  • Experience using Braze or Tealium
  • Knowledge of data privacy and other related laws
  • Strong project management, organization, attention to detail, and communication skills
