In this role you’ll lead a strong team of communications professionals working across all of our Lines of Business, and at the corporate level. You’ll take responsibility for defining our consumer and tech narratives, bringing new products and services to market, launching new partnerships, and finding and telling compelling stories that highlight the progress we’re making and the impact we have. You’ll also act as a trusted counselor to senior leaders across the company. You’ll work closely with stakeholders in engineering, operations and marketing, as well as others on the Lyft Communications team. 

We’re looking for an experienced, strategic and creative communications leader to take on this role. You’ll have a passion for understanding consumers, and knowing how to connect with them in creative and compelling ways. You’ll have experience leading a strong team, and working cross functionally across an organization. You’ll have deep experience using all the tools in the communications toolbox. You’ll be just as comfortable working with top tier reporters as you are defining digital and social strategies, or establishing and executing creative partnerships. And you’ll know how to define success and measure it. 

This is a senior leadership opportunity with a big opportunity to have a profound impact. You report directly to the VP Communications and will join Lyft’s Communications Leadership Team. 

Responsibilities:

  • Nurture and build a strong and diverse team of communications professionals who can drive world class communications programs in support of Lyft’s business goals.
  • Define compelling  consumer and technology narratives that support the company’s broader narrative and vision.
  • Build strategic and creative communications plans that strengthen Lyft’s image and reputation with consumers.
  • Partner with leaders of each of our Lines of Business and with other central teams  - especially marketing  - to build compelling and strategic communications strategies, campaigns and plans in support of the company overall, the business units, and specific products and services. 
  • Work directly with top tier media to help them be successful and ensure they understand Lyft’s vision and progress. 
  • Design and build integrated communications capability including across new and emerging platforms. 

Experience:

  • 15+ years of Communications experience with a particular focus on consumer communications. Experience working with technology products and services is helpful. 
  • A background in working with consumer brands, products or markets where consumer sentiment or attitudes can change quickly, and where you worked to understand social trends and movements. 
  • Experience working in competitive and dynamic industries.  
  • Strong experience developing narratives that align with the company mission and resonate with audiences.
  • Proven experience as a trusted communications advisor to senior executives. 
  • Deep experience building constructive relationships with top tier reporters, editors and influencers.  
  • Demonstrated experience hiring, mentoring, coaching and retaining a high-performing communications team. You create a culture of continuous learning from success and failures
