Job Description

Taylor & Francis are looking for a Funding Expert to join our Researcher Services, Journals Marketing Department. Working closely with the Marketing Leadership team, this role takes full ownership and accountability for planning and delivery related to Open Science publishing in the Americas region, with a clear focus of driving article submissions from funder organizations (government/private grant funding organizations) and researchers/grant recipients to meet our growth targets for open access and subscription titles. You will own the development of marketing plans to attract grant recipients to publish with Taylor and Francis and create and build best practices in this market.

The role is regionally focused in the Americas, working with cross functional teams to develop the organization’s capability in your area of expertise and ensuring that the best practice you set, and advocate is regionally and globally consistent.

What you will be doing:

  • Lead the strategic development of digital marketing activities to develop and deliver an impactful AMERICAS marketing strategy to private and government funding agencies and grant recipients.
  • Collaborate with external stakeholders, such as: government/private grant funding organizations, academic research offices, and grant recipients to create a stakeholder roadmap to identify and prioritize key funders and grant recipients in the region.
  • Understand potential of untapped regional government or private research funding to build partnerships with these funding agencies – helping more researchers get access to funding and publish with T&F.
  • Manage the annual budget of marketing spend for the funder/grant recipient market. Track performance against this and analyze channel ROI to take corrective action where needed.
  • Acts as an expert influencing internal solution innovations around grant funding, core marketing strategies, and external company perception.
  • Collaborate with a team of Omni-channel Marketers to create targeted and engaging marketing campaigns to attract and acquire our target audience.

Qualifications

What we're looking for:

Knowledge & Experience

  • Demonstrable experience and expertise of grant funding organizations in the Americas and an understanding of how recipients receive and use grant funding awards.
  • In-depth knowledge of the Open Science/Research space; funding organizations, academic research office, the academic publishing industry, and the wider scholarly eco-system.
  • Possess a high degree of understanding of Open Science/Research market conditions and commercial opportunities.
  • Knowledge of scientific research and how the publishing of research happens in scholarly journals. 
  • Experience in planning, delivering, and reporting on business strategic activities that drive organizational growth.
  • Demonstrable experience leading and developing and delivering against measurable KPIs.
  • Proven track record developing, managing, and implementing regional marketing strategies in new markets to deliver business growth within a global business.

  • Focused on delivering commercial value in the Open Science/Research market.
  • Synthesizes customer and market data from multiple sources to develop and drive key initiatives across the business and within the region.
  • Strong communication skills: Works collaboratively with other leaders and departments to build strong, cross-functional partnerships, both internally and externally; Industry expert and customer champion.
  • Analytical thinker with a good ability to work with financial data, analyses and manipulate spreadsheets, extrapolate sales trajectories, and manage a global P&L
  • Manages the implementation of change through positive behavior and attitude; Contributes ideas of how to best manage and implement changes based on customer needs
  • Ability to inspire others towards a common vision or goal

  • You must have the right to work and live in United States
  • This position is remote to candidates on the East Coast of the US to ensure as much overlap working hours with colleagues in the UK. Domestic and international travel to T&F offices may be expected. You must have the right to live and work US.
