Taylor & Francis have an exciting opportunity for a talented individual to join the F1000 Corporate Communications team as a Research Press Officer. Working in a newly established strategic media team, you will take a lead on sourcing suitable content from F1000Research and F1000’s partner platforms, such as Wellcome Open Research, Open Research Europe and Gates Open Research, writing engaging and effective press releases, and drawing on a network of journalist contacts to disseminate targeted international media campaigns. There is also the opportunity to assist in establishing media partnerships and to contribute to integrated campaigns across all corporate communications channels.

Academic research and scientific discovery drive the news agenda every day, making headlines around the world. Research informs and influences at every level of society, from medical practice through to government policy. A well-crafted media campaign is often the driving force behind a key piece of research achieving significant impact.

We are looking for a driven, creative candidate who can play a central role in bringing quality research to life through effective and targeted media campaigns.

Job Description

This is a unique opportunity to take ownership of the research communications for a diverse portfolio of high-profile open research publishing platforms, where you will identify and shape the messaging for high-quality, newsworthy content, crafting expertly written press releases, and liaising with journalists and media partners around the world to ensure the content is effectively communicated in the press.

Responsibilities include:

  • Identifying and evaluating research articles for potential media campaigns, pinpointing relevant data and working with researchers and content teams to identify and create evidenced-based, compelling stories
  • Writing expertly produced press releases across a wide range of subject areas, striking the ideal balance between engaging copy and the responsible communication of research
  • Working with our media center partners to effectively communicate research relevant to their subject specialism and region
  • Targeting and disseminating effective media campaigns through our in-house and external suite of press distribution channels
  • Engaging with journalists through social media
  • Effectively managing and monitoring media coverage and media relations
  • Tracking results and feeding back recommendations for best practice to wider team
  • Communicating effectively with a wide range of stakeholders throughout the complete process of a media campaign

Qualifications

  • A finely-tuned ability to spot a good story, being able to evaluate complex academic content and uncover the media angle
  • Outstanding writing skills, skillfully delivering engaging press releases which are written responsibly, and in line with wider business objectives
  • Highly developed organization skills, with the ability to work under pressure on multiple projects, with multiple stakeholders at any one time
  • Excellent communication skills, with an ability to build effective relationships and use them to influence and negotiate diplomatically
  • Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy
  • A can-do attitude, with a willingness to support other members of the team when required, and applying initiative and common sense to problem-solve
  • Ideally you will have experience of working in a busy press office or communication environment
  • Preferably a STEM subject background and/or demonstrable experience is science media and communications
