Director of Market Strategy & Management

We are seeking people to fill the role of "Director of Market Strategy & Management (MSM)" in multiple cities across the US. In this role, you will have the unique opportunity to develop and scale Gopuff in one of our major markets, and help us become the delivery platform of choice for customers and driver partners. The MSM is by far the most demanding position Gopuff has to offer - requiring talent, leadership, and an entrepreneurial drive. Successful MSMs will be entrepreneurial, agile, and knowledgeable about the culture and quirks of their markets.
We are looking for someone who has that mix of incredible operational prowess to get great work done, the innovation and creative thinking that's required to develop outside the box solutions, the emotional intelligence required to lead a fast paced business and inspire a team of people, the diplomatic instincts to build meaningful positive relationships with local stakeholders, and the collaboration skills needed to bring out the best from all your colleagues at Gopuff.
This role is ideal for someone who has experience in building a business, is excited about managing the operation of a whole market in 360 degrees, and is obsessed not only about the big picture but also about improving and iterating on processes to obtain operational excellence and deliver our customers an incredible experience, every time.
Market strategy, marketplace efficiency, quality, local product assortment strategy, P&L ownership, team development and coaching, and customer experience all sit under the MSM's broad umbrella of responsibilities. Developing a deep understanding of your market and truly being its owner will be critical to your success. This is where creativity meets leadership and execution head on.

Responsibilities
- Build, develop and lead a team of smart and passionate people towards building Gopuff and the future of immediate, everyday needs in your market
- Own the P&L and holistic customer experience for your market; oversee budgeting, business performance, and financial optimization to reach growth, profitability, and operational targets
- Drive the end-to-end market strategy, including geographic expansion, local product assortment, pricing, reliability, and customer growth
- Own execution. Your team is responsible for growing orders, customers and revenue in your market, in a highly competitive space.
- Own all local marketplace logistics & delivery operations
- Define the hiring needs in your market and recruit top Ops talent to fill these roles
- Quarterback all cross-functional efforts that improve customer experience and driver experience in your market, across marketing, communications, real estate, policy, legal and business development teams
- Work with other MSMs and your teams to help scale our markets through developing and sharing best practices
- Run experiments: we're looking for people who are curious and passionate about solving problems! There will be many interesting challenges ahead. Nearly every road hasn't been paved yet. Experimenting and finding unique solutions is in our DNA.

Requirements / Preferred Qualifications
- 10+ years of experience in business management in operations, strategy consulting, technology, finance, business development or a similar area. (Rapidly changing environment, start-up experience, P&L ownership are a plus)
- Operating experience at high growth or early stage company
- Executive decision-making, both business and team - combines high raw analytical horsepower with strong intuition to bring strategic judgement & operational acumen to tough decisions, regarding both business and people.
- Has a vision, and thinks big, while able to dig deep into details. Knows what success looks like, can set out a path to take the team there; leans easily back and forth between key details and a high altitude view.
- Ability to execute - creatively problem solves, is politely persistent, gets things done. Can MacGyver your way out of any situation.
- Strong interpersonal skills - able to build and manage strong relationships with your team, cross-functional colleagues, and external partners and stakeholders; quickly connects with others and builds trust and confidence• Entrepreneurship mentality - must be a self-starter and leader.
- Experience leading a team - with a willingness to invest in the coaching and development of your team members and a track record of doing this
- Leadership by example - able to motivate and inspire; proactively creates an inclusive and positive work environment for all
- Exceptional communication and organizational skills. Able to communicate and listen effectively; great written, verbal and presentation skills
- Ability to adapt with humility and resilience; learns from the past and from feedback; is comfortable with ambiguity and fast changing situations
- A passion for Gopuff and growing the brand and business in your market
- Some travel depending on market(s) covered
- Bachelor's Degree, preferably in Business, Operations, Finance, Economics, Management, or STEM
- MBA or similar masters is a benefit, but not essential depending on holistic set of other experience
