SCOPE OF ROLE

The Market Development team is responsible for driving our growth in new and existing markets. Internally, you’ll partner with Bright Health’s leadership, business unit executives, and market executives to develop our growth strategy. Externally, you’ll identify, cultivate, execute, and manage new partnerships with health systems or other care delivery organizations (“Care Partners”) to offer insurance products in new markets.

The Director, Market Development will lead a team that is responsible for all development activities in a large region of the United States (e.g., the West, the Northeast, etc.). These activities may include:

  • Developing growth strategies for new and existing markets, such as geographic expansion, product expansion, novel partnership development, etc.
  • Developing and managing the strategic partnerships with our Care Partners and top network providers
  • Conducting network contracting with our Care Partners and top network providers
  • Partnering with Market Presidents and Managing Directors to identify and pursue growth opportunities, address issues, and ensure growth and vitality of Bright Health Group’s service offerings

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead Market Development in select markets from Care Partner identification and diligence through deal execution and handoff to implementation, coordinating across numerous internal and external teams to progress partnership establishment
    • Design optimal market entry strategy in designated markets, including conducting market diligence and identifying key health system partners and provider groups to bring in-network to support commercially viable products
    • Develop new health system and provider group relationships by consultatively selling Bright’s unique value proposition to prospective Care Partners
    • Formalize Care Partner relationships by driving Care Partner contracting, negotiating rates, and developing other legal documentation
    • Plan, initiate, and facilitate subsequent handoffs for Care Partner and market implementation to the Market Success and Market Leadership teams
  • Present opportunities to improve the market development process, including development of Care Partner-facing materials and internal tools
  • Serve as the market development subject matter expert for local market leaders as they refine provider networks and renegotiate provider contracts in existing markets
  • Support efforts to identify, evaluate, and cultivate relationships with other care delivery organizations
  • Lead teammates on the market development team
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

This position may have supervisory responsibilities.

EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree (MBA, MPH, MHA, MPP) preferred, but not required.
  • Minimum eight (8) years of experience working in a leadership capacity in the provider and/or payer segments of healthcare required.
  • Experience in management consulting, provider strategy/business development, payer strategy/business development, and/or value based care preferred but not required
  • Experience working with payers and/or health system managed care and familiarity with healthcare provider reimbursement structures / fee schedules preferred but not required

PROFESSIONAL COMPETENCIES

  • Strategic thinking about provider and payer competitive landscape and positioning
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to simultaneously manage several complex projects involving multiple stakeholders over long periods of time
  • Proven business development and partnership cultivation experience in healthcare industry, including experience with contract negotiations
  • High level of EQ and alignment to Bright Health values
  • Mission driven and motivated to work in an organization that will transform the patient experience and the health plan landscape
