Director, Market Development - East

We’re seeking a Director of Market Development to serve as a member of our regional team in Raleigh within a fast-growing department housing our most important initiatives. This is a newly formed group that is tasked with building out new areas of our business and transforming the company in the process.
Your day-to-day will support aggressive expansion efforts at a rapidly growing, geographically distributed, well-capitalized start-up. You’ll be managing an incredibly sophisticated team that is driving growth across the country through improving and supporting operations and developing and launching a local marketing strategy.
Role & Responsibilities
- Build and manage a new, fast-growing and innovative team that oversees a localization and decentralization of our growth strategy, including building a creative local marketing and strategy team
- Build an experiential marketing playbook that leverages existing in-market brands and influencers to drive loyalty and awareness and can be replicated across our markets
- Develop a growth strategy to drive new customer acquisition in each market and region and become one of the most recognized local brands
- In collaboration with the greater Gopuff team, develop, refine, and quickly execute a playbook for improving the overall business, growing markets, and optimizing user acquisition
- Invent, rebuild, and project manage to successful completion complex work-flows driving, growing, and expanding operations across the country to support an aggressive growth strategy
- Support strategic and operational planning with a nuanced understanding of our customer, keen insight into our brand and value proposition, and the ability to translate and operationalize the above
- Be data driven: A/B test, develop and utilize analytics and reporting, know our CAC and lifetime value of users we acquire
- Work cross-functionally across Product, Operations, National Marketing, and other key stakeholders to help your team succeed
Qualifications
- 10+ years of experience, ideally with the following emphasis or combination of:
- Growth strategy, growth/integrated marketing, expansion, business intelligence, or investment banking/consulting role in other complex industries.
- High-growth strategy and operating experience, especially at an early-stage company is strongly preferred.
- Managing large scale teams including multiple function types like strategists and marketers
- Strong analytical skills, comfortability with data, and the ability to synthesize quantitative analysis into an effective business case for action.
- Proficient in Excel; deep experience with numbers as it relates to costs of acquiring users, lifetime value and other pertinent marketing metrics
- Experience overseeing the go-to-market strategy of a new product or company
- The ability to connect deeply and empathize with multiple types of people, from a software engineer to a barista.
- Comfortable addressing challenges with ambiguous or incomplete information.
- Strong organizational skills and extreme attention to detail.
- Have the maturity to maintain confidentiality and discretion, and know when to escalate to the right stakeholders, as you will be in the middle of everything.
- Initiative and bias for action, on-time delivery, and operational excellence.
- Ability to research, comprehend, and recommend actions on complex compliance issues.
- Willingness to travel up to 25%
- Flexible and very comfortable with ambiguity and change
