About the Role

The Director of Communications will bring Mynd’s mission, values, employees, products, differentiators, and customers to life through compelling storytelling. They’ll be responsible for building brand, category, and problem awareness by continuously upleveling Mynd’s thought leadership strategy and content, media relationships, press hits, and industry recognition (real estate and fintech). They’ll also oversee our in-house editorial team and our external PR agency. They will act as a steward of the brand internally and externally, ensuring that all earned, owned, and paid channels are manifesting the same comms strategy throughout all departments.

Reporting to the VP of Marketing and sitting within the Revenue organization, this role will work closely with the product marketing, brand, creative, and strategy teams to identify cultural, digital consumer, tech, and real estate industry trends that present brand-building opportunities for Mynd. They’ll measure and report on the ability of our media activity and content to drive awareness, resonance, sales, and customer retention. 

They’ll also develop a framework for choosing influencer partners, evaluating co-branded content partnership opportunities, and ensuring that content creators are portraying the Mynd brand positively and accurately.

Finally, they’ll advise the C-Suite on Mynd’s Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) and Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) initiatives, crafting thoughtful communications that reflect our company values and brand voice for both internal and external audiences. 

Responsibilities

Strategy

  • Own quarterly comms strategy planning and prioritization. 
  • Work with the VP Marketing and our COO to document our ESG policies and the impact they have on “creating happy homes and sustainable investments.” Brainstorm and prep pitch angles to get us noticed by the media. 
  • Conduct market and messaging research on the narratives and positioning of competitors. 
  • Own the reporting, definition, and measurement of comms attribution methods and performance to connect comms initiatives to revenue objectives.

Thought leadership, Editorial & PR

  • Drive PR strategy and oversight of external comms agency.
  • Draft messaging and press releases for major company announcements/milestones, including new funding rounds.
  • Together with the in-house Economist, conduct annual and ad hoc thought leadership research on media-worthy insights. 
  • Prep company spokespeople for media interviews in all mediums.
  • Work with the in-house editorial team, creative studio, brand team, and specialized agency partners to build A+ educational and thought leadership content for public consumption.
  • Oversee the creation of a company-wide customer reference program. 
  • Build a launch campaign to maximize buzz around our upcoming rebrand.

Events, Speaker Pitching, & Awards

  • Partner with the demand gen team on organizing captivating sales and customer events.
  • Ensure that Mynd gets speaking slots at all major conferences.
  • Oversee the awards program, including advising on which awards are worth our time and reviewing applications.

Internal & Corporate Comms

  • Support the C suite with internal/employer comms, all-hands meetings, and board slides.
  • Partner with the Talent & Culture team on our employer brand strategy and materials.
  • Draft or edit company announcements and policies as needed by CPO. 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, English, or writing, or equivalent experience
  • 10+ years of communications experience, ideally both in-house at a high-growth startup 
  • 3+ years leading the Comms or PR strategy and working directly with the CEO of venture-backed late-stage startup
  • Has built a high-performing influencer program from the ground up
  • Excellent storytelling, writing, editing, grammar, and verbal presentation skills
  • Strong relationships with top tier journalists in the tech, real estate, finance, and/or home renovation industries
  • Self-starter with an ability to build strong cross-functional relationships and lead through influence
