Element Biosciences is a multi-disciplinary startup focused on innovating genetic analysis tools for the research and clinical markets. Based in either San Diego or San Francisco, CA and reporting to the Chief People Officer, the Director of Corporate Communications will be responsible for supporting the development and execution of the internal and external communications. The ideal candidate has experience representing life science-focused companies, established relationships with traditional media outlets, a clear understanding of social media technologies and strategies, internal communications experience, and an understanding of how communications activities support business strategies/objectives and executive priorities. S/he has the ability to influence others and drive alignment across diverse cross-functional teams. The ideal candidate will also possess a self-starting, entrepreneurial spirit and exhibit business ethics and strong problem-solving skills.





 

Responsibilities

  • Help define Public Relations and Internal Communications strategies for the organization that achieve business objectives and convey the unique value of Element Biosciences and its products
  • Build and enhance relationships with external media outlets including news, business,
  • and industry trade publications, with both traditional and digital media; garner local, regional and national coverage 
  • Actively manage and direct external agency partners
  • Support development of all PR and internal communications materials, including press releases, Q&As, website content, executive talking points, fact sheets, etc., in collaboration with external agency colleagues, and internal colleagues in Marketing, Investor Relations, Legal, Regulatory, Human Resources, and other parts of the organization
  • Prepare company spokespeople for media interviews and other engagements, including training spokespeople, as needed
  • Identify external opportunities, such as media interviews, speaking engagements at industry conferences, and other forums, such as social media, to establish company executives as industry thought leaders
  • Define and manage the strategy, planning, and implementation of a robust social media presence
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues across the organization to ensure alignment and visibility of communications initiatives across functions

Qualifications

  • 12+ years of public relations experience at a Life Sciences or Tech company or a combination of in-house and agency experience working with biotech/med device/pharmaceutical clients
  • Strong understanding of scientific concepts and ability to translate technical language into laymen’s terms. Prior experience in genomics preferred.
  • Experience interacting with policymakers, patient advocates and third-party advocacy organizations a plus
  • Demonstrated experience crafting and executing successful traditional media, social media, and internal communications strategies.
  • Experience working with high performing teams and demonstrated ability to collaborate, facilitate, influence, and organize across multiple groups and levels of an organization
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, and exceptional attention to detail
  • Understanding of FDA regulations impacting life sciences companies
  • Unquestionable ethics and integrity
  • Ability to travel up to 25% of the time
  • Bachelors or other advanced degree preferred
