Job Description

Promote the Whole Foods Market brand with public relations efforts that complement the overall Marketing and Communications mix. Join a collaborative and creative Consumer Communications team to help tell stories that bring to life Whole Foods Market’s mission and core values, quality standards, key differentiators, and offerings.

Responsibilities:

  • Promote the Whole Foods Market brand via proactive regional media outreach and inbound media inquiries, working closely with business partners across the company and external stakeholders
  • Help develop and execute strategic PR campaigns that earn strong media coverage around key company announcements, initiatives, and differentiators
  • Grow and nurture long-term media relationships, constantly building new contacts; maintain consumer master media list
  • Handle regional inquiries from beginning to end by shaping messages and preparing spokespersons to ensure positive outcomes
  • Write strategy documents, press releases, pitches, key messages, media training materials, backgrounders, Q&As, etc.; reinforce our health and wellness brand and clearly tell the Whole Foods Market story
  • Communicate with regional leadership and category marketers, proactively seeking new information for creative and impactful storytelling
  • Review and offer guidance on supplier press releases, providing quotes from Whole Foods Market spokespeople
  • Conduct regular media analysis to keep your finger on the pulse of reporters covering the company and important industry topics
  • Assist with reporting and tracking coverage and program success; assist in executing and managing integrated communications programs
  • Keep your finger on the pulse of relevant cultural trends and news; actively participate on the Tiger Team, a sub team within the Consumer Communications team, that focuses on creative ways to bring Whole Foods Market into key cultural moments

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in journalism, PR, marketing communications, marketing, or a related field
  • 2+ years of relevant in-house or agency PR experience, retail experience is a plus
  • Outstanding communication and writing skills
  • Collaborative and highly motivated with a proven ability to work effectively in a dynamic, fast-moving environment; high ethical standards and integrity
  • Strategic and creative thinker; ability to execute integrated communications and PR campaigns that deliver measurable results and meet agreed-upon objectives
  • Media pitching confidence and plenty of media outreach experience, consumer marketing knowledge, ability to work on big strategy plans as well as in the trenches daily
  • Deadline-oriented, high energy, self-motivated and inquisitive with great follow-up and reporting skills
  • Comprehensive understanding of the overarching mission of the company and how it relates to all decisions made. Knowledge of retail operations and communication procedures is preferred
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills; team player; welcomes feedback and seeks growth; inquisitive nature
  • Creativity in securing coverage and buzz with traditional outlets; understands media needs and interests
  • Understands basics of social media and influencer marketing
