An Insider's view of Shelf Engine

What's something quirky about your company?

Our CTO, Bede Jordan, presents a weekly segment during our All Hands meeting aptly named: Sportsball—weekly sports updates from a guy who knows nothing about sports. Past segments have included breaking news updates on underwater hockey, kayak polo, corgi sledding, and are headlined by a Dodgeball-themed photoshop of Bede himself.

Renee

Sr. Customer Success Manager

How do you collaborate with other teams in the company?

As the Data Science Product Manager, I collaborate with almost every team daily. Doing so helps our team to better understand the trends we find in data. The customer-facing teams provide invaluable input on product features and strategy, and we connect constantly with Engineering to scope and build our constantly evolving AI system.

Rishi

Data Science Product Manager

How has your career grown since starting at the company?

Since joining Shelf Engine, I have had many opportunities to work on various projects cross-functionally; each with its own unique nuance and difficulty. These rich learning experiences have allowed me to grow at a fast pace. I get to solve challenging and rewarding problems and I am excited to see what’s next.

Yusing

How do your team's ideas influence the company's direction?

We are building pioneering advancements in AI to reduce food waste. We support grocers, bring down food prices, and reduce the negative sociological and environmental impacts of waste using supply chain, inventory, optimization, causal inference, experimentation, ML Ops, and ML explainability for a daily positive impact—and we've only just begun!

Shawn

Head of Data Science

What makes someone successful on your team?

My team is at its best when we focus on the impact our work has on our customers and the rest of the company. No product feature exists in isolation, so collaborating across disciplines and keeping our mission top of mind is essential. The more we consider how our features work together to achieve a common goal, the more likely we are to succeed.
