Communications Strategist - REMOTE
Responsibilities
As a Communications Strategist at Principal, you'll serve the needs of business and enterprise partners by supporting the strategic development, production, and distribution of a variety of communications that enhance brand messaging, tell a Principal story, and support high-level enterprise strategy and business objectives. One of your primary responsibilities will be to develop and execute on the digital content and editorial strategy used to influence our employee experience through our intranet.
Here are a few examples of what you'll do as a member of the communications team:
- Write and edit a variety of communications materials including news articles, blogs, emails, social media posts, talking points, and presentations on industry and Principal-specific topics.
- Consult and assist communications strategy leaders and business partners in developing and refining messaging and delivery for specific audiences and communications channels to maximize impact and effectiveness, producing supporting communications plans as needed.
- Collaborate with colleagues across the team and organization to ensure consistent, integrated messaging and execution on issues that matter most to our employee experience, brand, business, and stakeholders.
- Measure the effectiveness of communications, including our employee intranet, providing counsel where adjustment may be needed. Produce data-driven reports to advance strategic decision-making.
- Develop and manage editorial calendar for the employee intranet, tying content back to overall digital and engagement strategy.
- Act as an internal reporter or news anchor by conducting interviews with employees to generate stories, videos, and other content.
- Create videos and design graphics to enhance story-telling and engage audiences.
- Perform other functions and duties as assigned.

Qualifications
We're looking for someone with:
- Bachelor's degree with minimum 6 years of experience in writing, journalism, communications, public relations, or marketing
- Ability to take an integrated communications approach to solve basic communication issues required
- Experience writing and editing all forms for a variety of audiences, including for social and digital platforms
- Creative and visual skills, proficiency with digital photography, videography, and related digital tools
- Web experience and knowledge of UX principles to achieve functional and attractive digital experiences
- Excellent organizational, presentation, problem-solving, and oral and written communication skills, along with strong basic analytical skills
- Adaptability, flexibility, and able to handle changing priorities
- Able to maintain a high degree of confidentiality
- Basic PC skills with the ability to maintain a high degree of accuracy and pay strict attention to detail
- Consistently meet deadlines

- Take an integrated communications approach to solve complex issues
- Tailor communications strategies and techniques for different audiences
- Understand and prioritize information and news from across the enterprise to ensure consistent, timely, and relevant messaging is delivered.
Salary Range Information
Salary ranges below reflect targeted base salaries. Non-sales positions have the opportunity to participate in a bonus program. Sales positions are eligible for sales incentives, and in some instances a bonus plan, whereby total compensation may far exceed base salary depending on individual performance. Actual compensation for all roles will be based upon geographic location, work experience, education, licensure requirements and/or skill level and will be finalized at the time of offer.
Salary Range
$73100 - $142800 / year
