Overview:

Under direct and indirect supervision of the Communications Supervisor, will perform tasks related to the operation of communication equipment used in receiving, sending, and relaying information in response to Emergency/Non-Emergency calls according to the goals of Mercy Hospital Oklahoma City, the philosophy of the Sisters of Mercy Standard of Care and Employee Code of Conduct. Determine exact location of each incident or call requested. Dispatch and track location of security officers. Maintain necessary documentation, logs, directories and records. Monitor required computer, CCTV, access control, alarm panels and related systems controlled by security. Relay safety and security related information to officers, supervisors and managers. Provide courteous and accurate information to all individuals seeking assistance. Perform related duties as assigned.

  • Be responsible for coordinating incoming and outgoing communications for patients, visitor and coworkers.
  • Determine the nature and urgency of each call quickly to provide the most immediate solution.
  • Demonstrates ability to work multi-line phone system efficiently.
  • Maintains a clean and organized work environment.



Qualifications:

  • Education: High school graduate or equivalent required.
  • Other: Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
    • Must have excellent communication and multi tasking abilities.
    • Must be able to effectively deal with people and highly stressful situations, which may be for an extended period of time; assess situations quickly and accurately; use appropriate judgment when dispatching officers to incidents including emergency situations; learn and follow established procedures; accurately type and speak; prepare and maintain accurate records; follow oral and written instructions; communicate clearly and effectively both verbally and in writing; deal effectively and courteously with co-workers and the general public; Will have to be flexible to work various days, weekends and holidays and various shifts.
    • Personnel will sit for prolonged periods with no natural lighting.
    • Equipment Used: Multi line telephone, computer, two way radio, Report Exec CAD system, fire alarm panel, security alarm panel, Infant security system, blue prints, multi screen camera system, and electronic door system.
  • Preferred Education: Communication courses, whether private, military or through a certification or degree program at a college or University program.
  • Preferred Experience: Experience working in a PBX/Operator or Dispatch setting
  • Preferred Certifications: APCO (Association of Public-Safety Communications Officials) Certification
