SUMMARY DESCRIPTION OF WORK

Responsible for communicating the agency's mission and impact through the development of compelling communication tactics that engages our various stakeholders. The Communications Coordinator composes, edits, and manages the production of the full range of material necessary to effectively support the advancement goals of Heartland Family Service and to convey our mission to both internal and external communities. Coordinates the to find the appropriate person from the agency or affiliated boards/supporters for presenting to serve as the agency's spokesperson to the media and builds effective relationships with media to promote our important work and increase financial support. The Communications Coordinator must also effectively communicate information and ideas in written and verbal format and build and maintain relationships. In addition, the Communications Coordinator serves as a key member of the Marketing Communications /Development/Grant teams by supporting all stakeholder engagement activities and events.

Compensation range: $38,900 to $45,700 (based upon experience)

Work Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with occasional weekends.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • *Coordinates overall communication efforts by creating, enhancing, and growing community awareness of Heartland Family Service (HFS) and its programs.
  • *Annually plans, organizes, implements, and monitors agency public relations priorities.
  • *Develops/edits copy for HFS print and digital materials which includes growing and maintaining the agency brand and AP style.
  • * Coordinates and implements interactive presence in all HFS social networking sites, including Facebook, Twitter, and other similar community sites, posting on relevant blogs, and seeding content into social applications, and by developing an annual social media calendar and working with program directors to gather relevant agency content.
  • * Coordinates crisis communications with HFS leadership and program directors.
  • * Fosters, develops, and maintains positive relationships with local media to gain the most positive impact for HFS in our community.
  • Maintains documentation of Heartland Family Service's history, including photography at internal and external events and for social media, along with upholding and maintaining the client's rights HIPPA agreement with clients when using them in agency stories/videos.
  • Provides support to the Development and Community Relations Coordinator, as well as the Friends Guild and advisory committees, in the development and implementation of agency events.
  • Displays a courteous and caring attitude at all times to HFS clientele, volunteers, and visitors.
  • Demonstrations a cooperative relationship and collaborates with HFS program area staff, volunteers, and other HFS staff.
  • Exhibits strong organizational skills, initiative and attention to detail.
  • Is dependable and punctual regarding scheduling and attendance.
  • Abides by all HFS procedures, policies, and requirements.
  • Develops personal and program-related skills through participation in internal and external training opportunities.
  • *Creates, maintains and shares as appropriate a dynamic self-care plan.
  • *Strives to make connections between HFS and the larger community whenever possible in order to contribute to HFS's ongoing fundraising and friend-raising efforts.
  • *Essential functions of this job are to be performed on company physical work site.
  • Performs other program-related duties as assigned.

*DENOTES ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor of Arts degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, or related degree preferred.
  • Minimum one to three years of experience.
  • Minimum one-year experience creating copy for event scripts, radio spots, video, and speeches/presentations, as well as writing copy for print, website, and social media.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate information and ideas in written and verbal format and build and maintain relationships.
  • Demonstrated ability to edit and format text in InDesign required. Experience working in the entire Adobe Creative Suite preferred.
  • Experience in capturing and editing video in Adobe Premier and creating A/V presentations.
  • Ability to implement a crisis communications plan.
  • Some nights and weekend required.
  • Valid driver's license/acceptable driving record required.
  • Capacity to learn and understand the agency's history and extensive program offerings.
  • One to two years of project management experience completing complex deliverables according to established timelines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Demonstrates a cooperative relationship and collaborates with HFS program area staff, key stakeholders, and other HFS staff.
  • Prepared to work on a team, to be led, and demonstrate willingness and capable of taking constructive feedback from various key people, in order to improve final communications.
