Assistant Director Product Marketing - Risk

Northwestern Mutual (NM) is looking for a talented product marketer with experience in the Insurance industry (specifically Permanent Life Insurance, Annuities and Disability Insurance) that is passionate about helping people succeed in achieving their financial goals while being a key contributor to deliver marketing strategies that build awareness, increase client consideration and deepen engagement with NM products and services. As part of the Product Marketing team, this role will drive strategic client and marketing perspective to our Insurance business partners, improvements to consumer marketing and client communication content and delivery, and effective integration across functions. It's critical this role has a good understanding of the role insurance products play in a financial pan and the impact they have on a consumers' life to ensure proper positioning and ability to influence business.
PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES: (List in order of importance)
- Marketing strategy: partner with the Risk product leadership team to develop marketing strategies that position the business properly to maintain our industry leadership and educate consumers on the role the products play in a financial plan.
- Influence collaboration and drive execution ; lead the execution of the client marketing strategies by understanding and influencing priorities, identifying gaps and solutioning, developing and implementing go-to-market processes, and quarterbacking the activation across the execution team to ensure the proper involvement and alignment.
- Marketing expertise and industry credibility; bring new strategies and best practices for driving client understanding and consideration in the industry while balancing existing business priorities and demand.
- Build partnerships; develop relationships and drive collaboration with key business partners in the Insurance business, Strategic Communications, Brand, Creative, Digital and Content teams.
- Brand management: Ensure consumer-facing communications consistently represent NM's brand look, feel, voice, personality and promise while delivering the intended prospect/client experience and help build upon advisors' sales practices.
- Business assessment: Collaborate with business partners and other Marketing teams to evaluate new, and optimize existing, programs and experiences to improve key business measures
- Story-telling and writing : actively contribute to content creation and influence the client story by brining industry insights and market relevant knowledge to business discussions.
REQUIREMENTS:
Minimum Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree (preference for marketing/communications, business or related field)
- 10+ years experience working with Insurance/risk oriented products and services with some experience working with clients and prospects
- Business acumen: the ability to quickly understand the business and drive positive outcomes is critical
- Results-driven focus with ability to use data intelligence to influence decisions and refine strategies.
- Organization skills: demonstrated superior ability to manage multiple complex, time sensitive projects in fast-paced environment
- Customer-Focus Thinking: able to generate strong excitement with new and unique project ideas and programs that keep the client as center focus
- Critical Thinking: Demonstrated skills in problem-solving, listening, planning and thought leadership
- Leadership: Ability to negotiate, influence, and build credibility and strong partnerships in matrixed organization across business functions and levels
- Business Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills for internal collaboration and development of consumer/client communications
- Adaptability: thrives in an environment of ambiguity, innovation and ongoing change
Preferred
- Knowledge and experience in the financial planning and insurance business
This job is not covered by the existing Collective Bargaining Agreement.
