ADP is hiring a Sr. Counsel

The Senior Counsel is the lead attorney for the ADP Comprehensive Services business unit and will drive Comprehensive Services' strategy and outcomes as a trusted business legal advisor, while protecting the ADP brand, growing market share and furthering ADP's competitive advantage in the marketplace. This individual will be responsible for all legal matters for the Comprehensive Services business unit. Providing advice and support on a wide variety of legal matters. Responsible for ensuring that ADP's service offerings within Comprehensive Services, and all marketing, sales and other practices affecting Comprehensive Services, remain in compliance with all applicable legal requirements. Serving as a resource for resolving actual or potential claims or lawsuits and governmental inquiries. Staying abreast of legal developments that could have an impact on Comprehensive Services.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Serve as a member of the Comprehensive Services senior leadership team, and as the primary lawyer and a trusted adviser to the SVP/GM of Comprehensive Services and the Comprehensive Services senior leadership team.
  • Responsible for providing legal representation, advice and counsel, and managing day-to-day legal issues affecting the Comprehensive Services business unit, including partnering and coordinating legal matters for which other legal teams may have primary responsibility.
  • Manage and resolve disputes with clients, vendors and other third parties; negotiate settlement agreements as appropriate; assist the business with remediation of errors relating to the disputes.
  • Provide advice and counsel concerning compliance matters, identify areas in need of compliance improvement and work with colleagues in the Comprehensive Services business unit to put into place and execute remediation plans as appropriate.
  • Support legal needs of Comprehensive Services Sales, Marketing, Finance and Business Development.
  • Coordinate legal support for the Comprehensive Services business with other Corporate support functions, including Real Estate, Global Security Organization, Finance, Treasury, Procurement, Internal Audit, Global Shared Services, etc.
  • Work with privacy attorneys and compliance attorneys to implement effective compliance programs.
  • Perform other related duties as needed. Some travel is required.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree, law degree (juris doctorate) and admission to a U.S. state bar association required. Strong academic credentials
  • 10+ years combined major law firm required, corporate in-house experience preferred.
  • Core capabilities include delivering actionable business legal advice, assessing and analyzing risk/value, and acting as a strategic advisor and business partner.
  • Candidate should possess substantial experience advising a business regarding regulatory, licensing or other legal compliance requirements.



  • Familiarity with wage and hour law, privacy law, healthcare law and/or employment law a plus.
  • Experience in business services, business outsourcing or HCM technology a plus.
  • Successful candidates will demonstrate:
    • Strong interpersonal, verbal and written communication and leadership skills at a professional level.
    • Ability to prioritize assignments and work under pressure.
    • Capability to be analytical and detail oriented.
    • Facility in managing multiple complex matters and proactively anticipating issues or problems as or before they arise.
    • Excellent negotiation and writing skills.
    • Record of exercising excellent judgment on behalf of clients involving large and complex organizations and issues.
